Saturday at the Workday Charity Open turned into a one-man show after Justin Thomas fired a pristine 6-under 66 to grab a two-stroke lead. Thomas, who’s searching for his third victory of the season, has yet to record a bogey this week and will be joined by Viktor Hovland in Sunday’s final group.

Top of the Board
Thomas, the pre-tournament favorite, hit 78.5% of the fairways on Saturday and 77.8% of the greens in regulation. He leads the field in both ball striking and strokes gained tee-to-green and ranks fourth in strokes gained around the green.

As good as he’s played so far, there’s an argument to be made that he should actually be leading by more. He ranks 31st through three rounds in strokes gained putting, and if that number improves on Sunday he’s going to lap the field. It’s never fun to bet on the 54-hole leader laying -159, but unless JT’s ball striking goes into the tank on Sunday, it’s hard to envision someone over taking him. If he does hold on for victory, he’ll be the youngest player to reach 13 career wins since Tiger Woods.
Hovland is a Tee-to-Green God
If Thomas were to falter at all, Hovland appears ready to pounce. The 22-year-old, who won in Puerto Rico last year, leads the field in birdies this week and ranks second in strokes gained tee-to-green. The Norwegian has topped the field in that stat in back-to-back weeks coming in and has gained 10 strokes on the field in the last two rounds.

If there’s one downside to his game it’s his putting, but he’s actually performed quite well by his standards on the greens this week. He’s gained 0.933 strokes with his putter, which if it holds, would be the first time he’s gained on the greens in his last seven events. +350 isn’t a fantastic price, but few guys are able to score as prolifically as him.
Best Live Value Picks at the Workday Charity Open
- Xander Schauffele (+10000): Fired a 6-under 66 in Round 3 to vault himself back into contention. He gained 2.5 strokes on approach and 2.17 strokes on the greens, and if that continues we can expect another low round on Sunday.
- Gary Woodland (+8000): Played his final five holes in 4-under par on Friday to make the cut, then fired a 6-under 66 on Saturday. Ranked fifth on approach and third on the greens in Round 3.
- Kevin Streelman (+3300): Finished fourth at this course last year and is just two weeks removed from a runner-up finish at the Travelers. Ranks seventh this week in ball striking and has already poured in 18 birdies.
