A Former Champion
24-year old Zverev won this tournament back in 2018, but hasn’t always had success. The German ended up not even qualifying for the knockout round last year, and lost in the semifinals to Dominic Thiem back in 2019.
But, once again, Zverev has had a success year that earned him a spot at the final tournament. He recently won the Vienna Open, and is coming off a semifinal appearance at the Paris Masters just last week.
This year as a whole, the 24-year old has collected five titles, contributing to his overall number of 18. He did not win a Grand Slam, but had semifinal appearances in both the US and French Open.
He’ll open his tournament against Berrettini, who is the home favorite here in Italy. The German has found quite a bit success over Berrettini over the years, but you never know with a home crowd
Home Favorite Berrettini
The 25-year old Italian will look to the crowd for support on Sunday as he opens up his year-end final tournament against a tough opponent in Zverev.
This will be Berrettini’s second appearance at the ATP Finals, with his first being back in 2019.
Despite having a pretty good year, the Italian hasn’t found much success recently, resulting in entering this tournament in a less than ideal state. He lost to American Taylor Fritz in Indian Wells in October, and managed to put a few wins together, but went on to lose in the quarterfinals of the Vienna Open, after being unable to defeat Carlos Alcaraz Garfia.
But on the year, the Italian has still been able to capture two titles, and put up a 41-11 record.
Head-to-Head
This will be the fifth meeting between Zverev and Berrettini, and the second meeting of the year. Their first match came back in 2018, with their most recent match at the finals of the Madrid Open in May, where Zverev won in three sets.
Their current head-to-head record sits at 3-1, with Zverev having the edge.

Best Bet
Given the moneyline odds, there seems to be a clear favorite to win the match, but where’s the best bet?
The indoor hard court surface is worth noting, as it’s an extremely fast surface. This should actually benefit Berrettini. He’s hard, aggressive serve and forehand should thrive in these conditions, and he’ll rely fairly heavily on them to win points against Zverev.
Berrettini will also look to the crowd for support, and will no doubt feed off whatever they’re giving him. But will these two things be enough to defeat the German? Again, Zverev has had a great season, but specifically he’s played better as of late, compared to his round robin opponent.
Their most recent match that happened earlier this year went the distance. So regardless of the winner here, the best bet looks to be how long this match goes.
Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+145)
