A week off appeared to serve the Denver Nuggets (54-29, 35-7 home) quite well as the rested squad destroyed Minnesota (43-42, 20-23 away) 109-80 in Game 1 of their first round matchup. It’s back to the drawing board for the T-Wolves when they reconvene for Game 2 on Wednesday, April 19th at Ball Arena.
Minnesota needs to square things up to have a remote chance to win this series and advance to the next round in the NBA playoff bracket. They’ll get their chance on TNT with the tip scheduled for 10:00 pm ET in Denver.
You can find the Timberwolves vs Nuggets odds below as we dissect this matchup and offer up our best bet and pick.
Timberwolves vs Nuggets Odds
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Minnesota Timberwolves | +8.5 (-110) | +275 | O 223.5 (-110) |
Denver Nuggets | -8.5 (-110) | -350 | U 223.5 (-110) |
Following their destruction of the T-Wolves in Game 1, the Nuggets are even stronger favorites, laying 8.5-points for Game 2.
Over their past seven games, Minnesota has hit the under six times, including in the first game against Denver. The projected total for Wednesday’s contest is 223.5 and if the teams are going to top that number, they’ll need to shoot the ball better. Combined, the squads hit just 41.5% of their shots from the floor in the series opener.

Timberwolves Need More from Anthony Edwards
Now in his 3rd season, Anthony Edwards has taken steps to improve his game with each successive year. His scoring average has gone from 19.3 in his rookie season, to 21.3, to 24.6 this campaign.
Anthony Edwards just moved into fourth place for the most points scored by a player under 22-years-old:

2️⃣ Kevin Durant

However since the play-in tournament began, he has struggled to score. Unable to hit the 20-point mark even once since the regular season finished, it’s difficult to see the T-Wolves getting back in this series without the former 1st overall pick making his mark.
Anthony Edwards Stats Since End of Regular Season
Date | Opponent | FG | Points |
---|---|---|---|
04/16/2023 | Nuggets | 6-15 | 18 |
04/14/2023 | Thunder | 8-19 | 19 |
04/11/2023 | Lakers | 3-17 | 9 |
During the regular season, he never went four consecutive contests without hitting the 20-point mark.
As a squad, Minnesota should bounce back in a city where they usually keep games tightly contested. The Timberwolves are 12-4 in the NBA odds against the spread vs the Nuggets on the road over their last 16 games.
Defense and Long Ball Key to Nuggets Game 1 Victory
You can argue that part of the Nuggets Game 1 success was due to the Timberwolves’ dispirited play, but you have to give some credit to Denver’s defense for limiting Minnesota to just 37% shooting from the field.
On the other end, Denver looked fabulous in transition, hitting 41% of its three-point attempts. Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. had a team high four triples each for a squad who is looking for some respect in the NBA championship odds. Denver earned the largest margin of victory so far in the playoffs with their effort.

They should be ready to deal with a more prepared T-Wolves side in Game 2. During the season, Denver struggled to cover sizable spreads as favorites, going 4-7 ATS when pegged as 7.5-9.5 chalk as they are in this one.
Game 2 Timberwolves vs Nuggets Prediction
As a whole, the company line from Minnesota is that Game 1 served as a wake up all. The trio of Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert has to be better. With a couple days off to rest, our prediction is that they at least keep the score respectable in this one.
Timberwolves vs Nuggets Same-Game Parlay Picks
Pick | Odds |
---|---|
Minnesota Timberwolves +8.5 | -110 |
Anthony Edwards 20+ Points | -310 |
Nikola Jokic 20+ Points | -270 |
PARLAY ODDS | +243 |
We’re counting on the two best offensive stars from each side to at least get to 20 points. Jokic played only 28 minutes after fouling out, and didn’t attempt a single trey, but still managed to finish with 13 points.
The money pick here is to wager on the T-Wolves to rebound. You have to go back to December to find the last time they lost two consecutive games by at least nine points, so we’ll gladly take the 8.5-point handicap for the underdogs.
Pick: Minnesota Timberwolves +8.5 (-110)
