Mike McDonald has turned around the Seahawks defense in his first year as head coach. In fact, Seattle ranks fourth in EPA per play allowed over the last four weeks while allowing 18.75 points per game.

On the Vikings side, Brian Flores’ stop-unit is the most aggressive defense in the NFL, with a league-high blitz rate above 50%.  Minnesota leads the NFL in interceptions with 20, and tied for fourth with 42 sacks. That’s bad news for a Seahawks offensive line that surrendered 22 pressures and seven sacks to Green Bay last week. Jonathan Greenard leads the way with 11 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, and four forced fumbles. On top of that, the Vikings have allowed just 18 points per game, and a league-low 0.282 points per play.

While it appears Geno Smith will play in this game after leaving last week’s contest with a knee injury, how effective he’ll be remains to be seen. Should his mobility be affected, the Seahawks could be in for a long night against Flores’ heavy blitzing scheme. Plus, Seattle sits 15th in drop-back success rate over the past four weeks, as the Seahawks have struggled to move the football. Jordan Addison has taken over since Week 10. He’s surpassed 52.5 receiving yards in five straight games, while averaging 8.8 targets, six receptions, and 94.6 receiving yards per contest. Addison’s had plenty of room to roam since TJ Hockenson’s return from injury, and he’ll have a ton of downfield opportunities on Sunday.

Seattle’s nickel corner Devon Witherspoon sports an elite 87.9 PFF run defense grade this season, good for fourth among cornerbacks. Additionally, the former Illinois star has gone over his player prop of 4.5 tackles and assists in eight of his last 10 games. Expect that to continue as the Vikings look to run out the clock, with key games against the Packers and Lions looming.
