The Oklahoma City Thunder (77-17, 51-7 home, 58-33-4 ATS) took care of business on Tuesday and now have the opportunity to take a commanding 2-0 lead on the Minnesota Timberwolves (57-36, 28-19 away, 46-46-1 ATS) on Thursday night in Game 2 of the best-of-seven Western Conference final. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:35 pm CT/8:35 pm ET at the Paycom Center. The Thunder are, for the second straight game, 7.5-point home favorites in Thursday’s NBA odds, a number OKC easily covered in a 114-88 Game 1 rout.

My first pick for Game 2 is Rudy Gobert (8.3 PPG, 9.0 RPG in 27.5 MPG during the postseason) to stay under 7.5 rebounds, which is listed at +105 at DraftKings. His number is higher (8.5) at other sportsbooks, but the juice is also higher (-125). I’m targeting the bigger payout.

Gobert played just 21 minutes in Game 1, collecting a scant three rebounds in the process. Seven of his teammates played more, despite Gobert being in the starting lineup. This happened during the Lakers and Warriors series, as well. He’s a liability at the offensive end and the T-Wolves are far more efficient with Naz Reid, Julius Randle, and Jaden McDaniels comprising their frontcourt.

I’m not expecting Gobert to be held to three boards again, but I am expecting his lack of playing time to keep him under eight for the game.

My second pick in MIN/OKC Game 2 is the Timberwolves to cover the 7.5-point spread. The biggest difference between the teams in Game 1 was three-point shooting. The Thunder went 11-of-21 from beyond the arc (52%) while the T-wolves were just 15-of-51 (29%). That’s not something likely to repeat. Minnesota was a better three-point shooting team than OKC all year (37.7% vs 37.4%) and has been better throughout the postseason, as well (34.3% vs 32.9%).

The Timberwolves were also -5 in turnover differential in Game 1, giving up an inexplicable 13 steals to OKC. Julius Randle had five turnovers, alone, and just one assist. Most of the sloppiness came in the second half; when Minnesota was holding it together in the first two quarters, they were getting the better of the Thunder, taking a four-point lead into halftime.

That continued the high degree of success for Minnesota against OKC from the regular season, when the Wolves were one of the few teams to play the Thunder to a stalemate, going 2-2 SU in four regular-season meetings.
