The Dodgers and Mets resume their heavyweight showdown today at Citi Field, following an epic 13-inning marathon that didn’t end until 1 a.m. ET. Los Angeles (32-19, 13-11 road) escaped with a 7-5 victory after the Mets (30-21, 17-6 home) tied it in the ninth off closer Tanner Scott.

The betting market has installed the Mets as slight home favorites in the MLB odds for Saturday’s rematch. First pitch is set for 7:15 pm ET on FOX, with partly cloudy skies and 60-degree temperatures expected in Queens.

After both bullpens were taxed heavily in Friday’s extra-inning affair, I’m targeting another high-scoring contest when these National League powers clash again.

The Dodgers used seven relievers last night, while the Mets exhausted their entire bullpen following a 98-minute rain delay. That leaves both managers with limited fresh arms, setting up potential fireworks if the starters falter early.

David Peterson’s sparkling 2.86 ERA masks some concerning underlying numbers. His expected ERA sits at 3.99, and he’s allowed hard contact at a 47.7% clip—landing in just the 12th percentile. Right-handed batters are hitting .255 with a .724 OPS against the southpaw, and that spells trouble against a Dodgers lineup stacked with dangerous righties.

The Dodgers have absolutely torched Peterson throughout his career. Across 93 at-bats, LA hitters are batting an absurd .400 with a 1.333 OPS and seven home runs. Shohei Ohtani is 8-for-13 lifetime against him, while Freddie Freeman has taken Peterson deep twice. Will Smith has also gone yard against the Mets starter.

Tony Gonsolin brings his own vulnerabilities to the mound. The right-hander has already surrendered four home runs in just 20 innings, and his extreme fly-ball tendencies make him prone to the long ball. In his last outing against the Angels, he coughed up four earned runs and two homers in four frames.

Left-handed hitters are batting .293 with an .871 OPS against Gonsolin this season. That’s music to the ears of Mets lefties like Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo. The Mets rank ninth in OPS and have proven they can score in bunches, even against quality pitching.

If the scoring barrage I’m predicting materializes, Pete Alonso stands out as an excellent play against Gonsolin’s fly-ball tendencies. The Mets first baseman leads the team with 38 RBI and is hitting .287 with a .527 slugging percentage.

Gonsolin has already surrendered four home runs in just 20 innings this season, including two in his last start against the Angels. His extreme fly-ball approach plays right into Alonso’s wheelhouse—the slugger has nine homers on the year and carries the shortest odds (+240) to leave the yard tonight.

With Gonsolin’s vulnerability to the long ball and Alonso’s team-leading power numbers, I love the plus-money value on over 1.5 total bases. He is due for a breakout, and the pitching matchup, along with the mild weather (60°F) at Citi Field, creates the ideal conditions for it to happen.

Everything points to runs crossing the plate early and often. The best value on the total sits at -110 for over 8.5 runs at Caesars. The Mets are -120 moneyline favorites and -200 to cover the +1.5 run line. The Dodgers offer slight value as +100 underdogs and +165 to cover -1.5.

According to the MLB public betting data, over 80% of both bets and money have landed on the under—a rare instance where public doesn’t like the over. However, this number climbed up to 9 today at Pinnacle, one of the sharper books out there. That shows some respected money forecasting a higher-scoring game.
