Odds to be 3rd Overall Pick – 2025 NHL Draft

Anton Frondell to Chicago at No. 3

The biggest line movement heading into the draft involves Swedish center Anton Frondell and the third overall pick. His odds dropped from +110 to -230 at DraftKings in recent weeks, and there’s good reason for it.

Here’s where it gets interesting: Elliotte Friedman reported on his “32 Thoughts” podcast that teams believe San Jose might shock everyone and take Frondell at No. 2 instead of Michael Misa. That rumor has created a ripple effect throughout the top five. If the Sharks grab Frondell, Misa falls to Chicago at three. But we’re not buying it.

The smart money says San Jose sticks with Misa, the OHL’s leading scorer with 134 points. That leaves Frondell for Chicago, where he makes perfect sense. Multiple sources, including The Athletic’s Scott Wheeler, report the Blackhawks are deciding between Frondell and Caleb Desnoyers.

ESPN and NHL.com’s mocks also have Frondell to Chicago. At 6-foot-1 and 204 pounds, he’s got the size Chicago wants next to Connor Bedard. Plus, he’s already proven he can produce against men in Sweden’s second league.

The 18-year-old posted 25 points in 29 regular-season games in Allsvenskan, then added seven points in 16 playoff games to help Djurgarden earn promotion. That’s the kind of two-way center who can handle tough minutes while Bedard focuses on offense.

Yeah, -230 requires laying some serious juice. But when you combine the insider reports with that line movement, it’s hard to ignore. The books don’t move lines like this without reason.

Porter Martone’s Top-5 Value

Here’s something you don’t see often: even money on a player everyone expects to go top five. Porter Martone, the 6-foot-3 winger from Brampton, offers exactly that at +100.

The Athletic reports Nashville’s upper management was all over Brampton games this season. Wheeler’s final mock, along with projections from NHL.com and Daily Faceoff, has the Predators taking Martone at No. 5. Makes sense too since the Preds have been searching for a high-skill forward forever, and Martone fits the bill perfectly.

This kid put up 98 points in 57 OHL games and wore the ‘C’ in Brampton. He’s got size, skill, and that power forward mentality teams drool over. Sure, there’s always a chance he slips past Nashville, but getting even money on a consensus top-five player? That’s the kind of value we’re looking for.

Brady Martin’s Rising Stock

Talk about a player shooting up draft boards. Brady Martin crushed it at the NHL Combine and now finds himself squarely in the top-10 conversation.

At +175 to go top five, Martin’s worth a shot. Multiple scouts say Utah (No. 4) and Nashville (No. 5) both love him. The Athletic reports Utah has spent extra time with him, viewing him as a potential 2C behind Logan Cooley. Nashville’s been all over Sault Ste. Marie games this season, and Martin fits their need for a competitive, skilled center.

Remember, this is the guy who scored a hat trick against Sweden in the U18 World Championship gold medal game. When the lights are brightest, Martin delivers. His 72 points in 57 OHL games show he’s got the skill to match the snarl. Even if both Utah and Nashville pass, getting +175 when he only needs one team in the top five to bite is solid value.

Draft Position Over/Under – NHL Draft 2025

Jack Nesbitt Under 21.5

The 6-foot-4 Windsor center might be the most improved player in this draft class. After putting up 64 points in 65 OHL games, scouts can’t stop talking about his potential.

NHL.com’s consensus mock has Nesbitt going in the 17-21 range, and that feels right. Ottawa at 21 would be the absolute floor for a player of his caliber. Teams picking earlier like Montreal (17), Calgary (18), and St. Louis (19) all need center depth and have been linked to Nesbitt. One scout compared him to Jamie Benn, highlighting his big body, good hands, and physical edge.

The under 21.5 gives us pick 21 as our worst-case scenario, and even that seems unlikely given the interest from teams in the late teens. With his combination of size, skill, and two-way play, Nesbitt profiles as exactly the type of center teams covet in that 17-20 range.
