After falling flat on the road at Florida State, Alabama got back in the win column with a 73-0 demolition of Louisiana-Monroe last week. Kane Wommack’s defense led the charge, racking up 12 tackles for loss and forcing three turnovers while holding the Warhawks to under three yards per rush. Head coach Kalen DeBoer hopes that dominant form continues into Week 3.

When given time in the pocket this season, Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has played at an elite level. His 89.6 clean pocket grade ranked 13th in the country through his first two games. In which the former five-star recruit has thrown for five scores and no picks with a 88% adjusted completion rate from a clean pocket.

Florida State disrupted the timing between Simpson and his receivers and used a newfound pass-rush to ruin the Tide’s offensive attack. This week, Alabama will make protecting Simpson their top priority against a Wisconsin front seven that ranks 10th in the nation in PFF pass-rush grade.

Boosting Alabama’s hopes, star receiver Ryan Williams is expected to suit up for the Crimson Tide after sitting out last week with a concussion. Williams finished the 2024 season with 48 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns and will be Simpson’s top target on Saturday.

He was relatively quiet against Florida State with five receptions for 30 yards, and he will be motivated to put on a show after torching the Badgers for 78 yards and a touchdown last season.

Thankfully for the Tide, they dominate at home in Tuscaloosa. In fact, Alabama is 13-0 SU in their last 13 games at home.

Much of Wisconsin’s chances in Saturday’s game will rest on the health of starting quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. The Badgers’ pivot hurt his knee in Week 1 and sat out last week against Middle Tennessee. In his place, backup quarterback Danny O’Neil struggled against Miami Ohio, but played well last week against Middle Tennessee.

The San Diego State transfer has tossed for 403 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions in relief. Edwards is reportedly expected to travel with the team, but faces long odds to suit up in Saturday’s showdown.

On the other side of the football, the Badgers’ defense is allowing just 5 points and 179 total yards per game this season. Additionally, Wisconsin’s stop unit has surrendered just over 30 rushing yards per contest. But shutting down the Crimson Tide is a different challenge than playing against Middle Tennessee.

Furthermore, Wisconsin is 2-6 SU in its last eight games against the SEC. Additionally, the Badgers haven’t fared well as underdogs of late, going just 1-4 ATS in their last five games as a dog.

Alabama vs Wisconsin Expert Prediction

Wisconsin’s only hope in this contest is to continually pressure Simpson into mistakes. However, after an embarrassing Week 1 loss, I think DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb have the Crimson Tide prepared and ready to play.

Plus, O’Neil has been a reliable presence under center who’s shown that he’s capable of leading scoring drives and protecting the football. Bet on some more fireworks from Alabama and Wisconsin in Week 3.
