Saturday night’s Big 12 clash between #25 BYU (3-0) and Colorado (2-2) is a rematch of last year’s Alamo Bowl. The Cougars physically dominated that contest 36-14, and online sportsbooks expect more of the same in Boulder.
BYU’s defense has suffocated every opponent this season, while Colorado’s offensive line continues to struggle. It’s a nightmare matchup for the Buffaloes against the Cougars’ pass rush.
BYU vs Colorado Prediction
- Pick: BYU -6.5 (-105 at ESPN Bet)
This line offers value on the Cougars. Their defense isn’t just good, it’s historically dominant through three games.
BYU ranks 1st nationally in scoring defense (5.3 PPG) and 2nd in total defense (205.3 YPG). They’ve surrendered just 16 points all season. That’s not a typo. They’ve allowed 16 total points across three games.
The most telling stat? BYU allows 1.6 yards per rush, best in the nation. Colorado’s ground game, already struggling at 141.3 yards per contest, is about to hit a brick wall.
BYU Defensive Stats
Colorado’s offensive line situation is a disaster. They’ve cycled through three offensive line coaches in three years and feature a completely new group of players. That’s a recipe for catastrophe against BYU’s sophisticated blitz packages.
Kaidon Salter showed promise last week with 304 yards and 4 TDs against Wyoming. But Wyoming isn’t BYU. The Cougars boast a +5 turnover margin and haven’t allowed a passing touchdown all season.
On the other side, Bear Bachmeier has been steady for BYU. The true freshman is completing 66.7% of his passes with zero interceptions. More importantly, LJ Martin is bulldozing defenses for 8.6 yards per carry.
Colorado’s run defense ranks 122nd nationally, surrendering 194.5 yards per game. Martin could eclipse 150 yards if BYU commits to the ground game. They’d be foolish not to.
The Buffaloes also struggle with time of possession, holding the ball for just 27:56 per game (106th nationally). BYU averages 33:19 (17th). Colorado’s offense will spend most of the night watching from the sidelines.
BYU vs Colorado Odds
The line opened at BYU -5.5 and sharp money quickly pushed it to -6.5. Some books touched -7 before buyback. That movement tells you where the smart money landed. The total has climbed from 47 to 49.5.
As of Saturday night, BYU sits at -6.5 across most books with -250 moneyline odds. Colorado comes back at +200. See more ways to bet this game with our BYU vs Colorado Player Props & Same-Game Parlay Picks.

BYU vs Colorado Betting Trends
The public can’t quit Colorado, but the money tells a different story. Per the college football public betting trends, the Buffaloes are drawing 40% of spread bets but only 29% of the handle.
When the minority of bets account for even less money, you’re seeing sharp action on the other side. The 60% backing BYU are placing significantly larger wagers. Professional bettors are pounding the Cougars while recreational players grab Colorado at +6.5.

The moneyline splits are even more extreme. BYU commands 96% of the money on 98% of tickets. Colorado gets just 2% of the cash. Books don’t move lines based on ticket count. They move them based on liability. That push from -5.5 to -6.5 happened because respected money hammered BYU.
BYU is 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games, including that bowl game demolition. They’ve covered by an average of 14.3 points in their three wins this season. Colorado sits at just 1-3 ATS, failing to cover as favorites twice.
Kickoff is set for 10:15 PM ET at Folsom Field in Boulder, with ESPN providing the broadcast. Weather looks perfect with temperatures around 69 degrees and light winds.
