Ohio sports betting ended the summer on a strong note, as the casino control commission reported a huge increase in August total sports betting handle over July.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission reported $662.7 million in total August sports betting handle, a nearly 25% increase over July’s sports betting handle total of $532,301,732, as the Buckeye State rolls into the lucrative football months.

The state also reported more than $72 million in taxable sports betting revenue for the month.

Strong Transition Into Football Season

Ohio ended the summer season on a strong note, reporting $662,760,428 in total sports betting handle for August. As is typically the case, online sports betting accounted for the vast majority of handle, as the state reported $651.1 million in online sports betting.

Taxable revenue came in at $72,709,323 for the month, which led to $14.5 million in tax revenue for Ohio.

The Buckeye State saw heavy increases in both total handle and taxable revenue after a July lull. Ohio reported just $532,301,732 in total July sports betting handle and $60,243,667 in total taxable revenue, which increased by 24.5% and 20.6%, respectively, in August.

The August totals also increased year-over-year when compared to August 2024, which reported $547,879,066 in total sports betting handle and $48,796,375 in taxable revenue.

FanDuel, DraftKings Continue Ohio Domination

FanDuel and DraftKings maintained their top spots in Ohio by a wide margin. DraftKings led the way in the state in terms of total online sports betting handle, reporting $218.1 million compared with FanDuel’s $207.6 million.

However, FanDuel had the more lucrative month, reporting $24.7 million in taxable revenue compared with DraftKings’ $24.5 million for the month of August.

Coming in at the third spot is still bet365, which has performed as the top-three operator in Ohio for the last several years. The operator reported $58.7 million in online sports betting handle and $5.6 million in taxable revenue for the month.
