Colorado vs TCU Preview
This game is expected to be a little easier for TCU compared to Colorado. Now, the Horned Frogs lost at Tempe last week to Arizona State. The score was 27-24 but the game was not as close as it would have appeared. The TCU defense allowed nearly 500 yards as Arizona State ran the ball down the middle early and often. If not for some missed kicks and some TCU special teams, the game might have almost felt like a blowout.
Sonny Dykes understands that they really cannot afford to lose this game. The game kicks off just after 7:30 pm ET on FOX.
Deion Sanders is desperate for an upset win. Unfortunately, Colorado looked awful in a 36-20 Houston win last month on the road. Houston ran the ball 53 times for over 200 yards, and TCU may find success against a rush defense that can be manhandled on the line of scrimmage.
Kaidon Salter did not look impressive last week, going 11-for-16 with under 150 yards passing, a touchdown, and a pick. Salter ran for 49 yards on 17 carries. Again, that bigger concern was that Colorado allowed 208 rushing yards to BYU at home. The Horned Frogs look to bounce back from an abysmal running effort that saw them gain only 10 yards on 25 carries against Arizona State.
Here are my Colorado vs TCU predictions and picks, along with a look at the betting lines further below.

Now, TCU gets to experience some easier matchups before their November meetings with Iowa State and BYU. Facing that Arizona State defense was rough. Josh Hoover did not look very special throwing two interceptions. Also, Hoover was TCU’s only credible running threat last week. His legs were good but several of this throwing decisions were not. Colorado does not quite have the same secondary compared to the Sun Devils.
Hoover looks to get Eric McAlister and Jordan Dwyer going on Saturday night. Joseph Manjack IV could be another option (six catches, 83 yards versus Arizona State). McAllister was more or less a scratch (five snaps) in Week 5 but probable to play fully against Colorado.
For Colorado, like we mentioned, Salter has to throw the ball much more and run effectively. BYU stuffed him often last week. If Colorado cannot control the line early, this will be a long evening for the Buffaloes.
The quarterback does have four rushing touchdowns to go with his five passing touchdowns. One problem is Colorado does not have the receiving corps they possessed last year or the signal-caller.
Colorado will have to play above its head on defense. However, if their offense can run the ball more, they can keep TCU off the field enough to maybe keep things close.
TCU took a hit and is now has +750 odds to make the College Football Playoff. If the Horned Frogs can run the table, they will make the playoff. One loss probably puts them on the bubble.
Colorado is one of those teams that finds a way to keep things spicy in primetime games. However, the legs and arm of Hoover are likely too much this week, especially with the likely return of McAllister.
Colorado vs TCU Picks:
- TCU -13.5 Spread (-110)
- Game Total over 57.5 (-110)

Now, the spread has moved around some but has stayed closer to 13.5 heading into Saturday night.
TCU is a more cohesive squad with its wide receiving corps intact. It is that simple. Their defense does introduce the possibility that Colorado can score enough points to put the over back in play.
Again, Saturday night on FOX may be made for a little excitement. TCU pulls out the spread and Game Over very late.
Colorado vs TCU Betting Lines
TCU is favored by 13.5 points with a -520 moneyline, implying a 83.87% win probability for the Horned Frogs. Colorado comes in as +390 underdogs with a 20.41% chance of road glory.
The total is set at 57.5 points, with even juice either way.
