Northern Illinois goes head-to-head with Toledo in Week 11 of the CFB season. This Wednesday showcase sees the inconsistent Huskies take on a Toledo squad that has alternated wins and losses every week over the past month. Tune into ESPN 2 at 7 pm ET to catch the midweek action.
Don’t miss my NIU vs Toledo prediction for Wednesday night.
NIU vs Toledo Prediction for Wednesday
Northern Illinois’ offense has struggled mightily this season, ranking dead last in the country in EPA per pass and offensive success rate. The only way the Huskies can find success is through running the football, which they’ve barely had an average success rate at throughout the season.
That strategy won’t work Wednesday night. Toledo sits 10th in EPA allowed per rush, allowing just three yards per carry.
Toledo is a far more talented football team, with plenty of solutions for everything the Northern Illinois defense throws at them. Expect Rockets quarterback Tucker Gleason to have a field day, the Toledo defense to completely stymie the Huskies, and the home favorites to cover the spread with ease.

Northern Illinois Betting Trends
The Huskies are hardly a hub of offensive genius. Northern Illinois sits in the bottom-10 in offensive success rate, EPA per pass, available yards percentage, early downs EPA, and net EPA per drive.
Thomas Hammock’s squad scores just 12.6 points per game, and converts only 33% of third-downs which is good for 114th in the country. This offense is brutally bad at scoring points and generating next to anything positive while they’re on the field.
Northern Illinois will rely on its rushing attack to move the football on Wednesday night. The Huskies average a respectable 173 yards per game on the ground, on 4.7 yards per carry.
However, finding success will prove difficult against a Toledo team that’s top-10 in EPA allowed per rush.
Defense remains the Huskies’ strength. NIU surrenders just 22 points per game, and 5.1 yards per play, each of which ranks in the top-45 in the country.
Looking at the betting trends, there’s not much reason to get behind NIU. The Huskies are 0-5 SU in their last five road games, and 1-4 ATS in that same span.
Toledo Betting Trends
Rockets quarterback Tucker Gleason is the engine behind this offense. The senior quarterback is having the best season of his career, and is up to 1,721 passing yards and 13 touchdowns on the year.
When Gleason’s arm isn’t doing the trick, the Rockets’ dangerous ground game leaves opponents searching for answers. Two running backs in Chip Trayanum and Kenji Christian have rushed for over 350 yards, with each of them averaging over five yards per carry.
But, the Rockets do their best work on the less glamorous side of the football. Toledo ranks in the top-10 in both passing and rushing EPA allowed, are surrendering only 18 points per game, and an elite 4.2 yards per play.
The Rockets give up just 6.1 yards per pass, and 3 yards per rush—a key detail against a Huskies squad that survives with their ground game. Should Toledo take an early lead, this NIU vs Toledo matchup will get ugly quickly.
Vince Kehres’ defensive unit is the best a mid-major program can offer, allowing opponents to complete just 52% of passes.
It’s easy to back the Rockets at home, as Toledo is 14-2 SU in its last 16 in the Glass Bowl.
NIU vs Toledo Odds for Wednesday Night
The Northern Illinois vs Toledo total sits at 42.5 with the over and under even at -110. Toledo are huge 14.5-point favorites for Wednesday CFB in the college football odds.
