Buffalo visits Philadelphia on Wednesday night with momentum on their side. The Sabres (11-11-4) have won six of their last nine games, including dominant performances against playoff contenders. The Flyers (14-8-3) are reeling from Monday’s 5-1 loss to Pittsburgh and just lost their leading goalscorer for months.

Face-off is set for 7:30 PM ET at Xfinity Mobile Arena. This matchup pits a surging Buffalo team getting Josh Norris up to speed against a Philadelphia squad trying to figure out how to replace Tyson Foerster’s 10 goals.

Here is my Sabres vs Flyers prediction, along with projected lineups and Wednesday NHL Odds.

My Sabres vs Flyers prediction backs Buffalo to steal one on the road. The Flyers are dealing with a devastating injury loss, and the underlying numbers tell me they’ve been living on borrowed time.

Foerster’s injury is massive. He took an uncontested slap shot on Monday, immediately fell to his knees in pain, and rushed straight to the locker room. The team announced Tuesday that he’ll miss 2-3 months. That’s your leading scorer gone for the season’s most critical stretch.

Buffalo’s getting healthy at the perfect time. Norris scored twice and added an assist Monday in just his second game this season after missing 24 straight with an upper-body injury. That explosion of offensive production shows he’s already back in rhythm.

The possession metrics heavily favor Buffalo. Over their last 10 games at 5-on-5, the Sabres are controlling 52.56% of shot attempts and generating 58.64% of scoring chances. More importantly, they’re creating 58.10% of high-danger chances. Those are numbers that win games.

Philadelphia’s been getting outplayed badly but still winning. Their 46.68% Corsi and 45.99% high-danger chance share at 5-on-5 are concerning. They’re surviving because their goaltending has been stellar, at 93.07% on high-danger saves. I don’t think that bubble holds much longer.

43.6%Faceoff Win %47.7%
15.46Blocked Shots/Game14.64

Buffalo’s penalty kill advantage is huge. They rank second in the NHL at 88.9% while Philadelphia sits at 82.1%. That gap matters even more after Pittsburgh scored three power-play goals on the Flyers on Monday. Coach Rick Tocchet admitted postgame that their penalty kill structure has been breaking down.

The Sabres generate way more shots, too. They’re averaging 28.77 per game compared to Philadelphia’s 24.84. When you’re outshooting opponents by four attempts per game and generating higher-quality chances, you’re doing the right things. Buffalo’s just not getting the saves.

Buffalo’s road struggles (2-6-2) look bad on paper, but recent results matter more. They’ve demolished quality opponents lately. Five goals against Edmonton, nine against Chicago, four against Carolina. The offense is humming.

Sabres vs Flyers Expert Picks

I’m taking the Sabres moneyline as short favorites. Philadelphia has lost back-to-back games in regulation once this season, but they’ve never dealt with losing their leading scorer midseason. The lineup shuffles put them in a tough spot.

Over 6.0 goals at -115 is another play I like. These teams have gone over in three straight meetings, and the over has hit in six of Buffalo’s last eight road games. Both teams play an up-tempo style that produces chances.

For props, take Trevor Zegras over 0.5 assists at +120. He’s recorded an assist in four straight games against Buffalo, and getting plus-money on him to extend that streak is a gift.

Jason Zucker over 1.5 shots at -141 is another play worth considering. He’s exceeded this number in nine of his last 10 road games as a favorite, averaging 3.0 shots in that span. Against a Flyers team dealing with injuries and defensive structure issues, Zucker should get his looks.

Wednesday NHL Odds: Sabres vs Flyers

Philadelphia opened as a notable favorite in the Wednesday NHL odds, but the line has flipped in the wake of Foerster’s injury news. I agree with this market move, as this loss will significantly impact Philly’s offense.

Buffalo backers can also get the Sabres on the puck line at +200, but I prefer backing them straight up at -125 on the moneyline. Despite their possession dominance, Buffalo has still struggled on the road overall this season.

Projected Lineups: Sabres vs Flyers

Both teams enter with notable lineup changes. Buffalo works Norris back into the mix after his productive game Monday, while Philadelphia scrambles to replace Foerster’s production on the top unit.

Philadelphia’s biggest lineup question is who replaces Foerster on the top line. Bobby Brink likely slides up, but he doesn’t bring the same scoring touch. That puts more pressure on Konecny to carry the offensive load.

Buffalo’s top line of Benson-Thompson-Quinn provides scoring punch, while the second unit of Zucker-McLeod-Tuch gives them secondary offense. Norris slots in on the fourth line as he continues to build back his conditioning, but expect his role to grow if he keeps producing like he did on Monday.
