Online Casino Payment Methods

One of the most common questions concerning online casinos is in regard to payment options.

It’s important to know what options you have for funding your account in a secure fashion. We took the time to break down the payment methods generally accepted by most online casino operators.

Here’s all you need to know about what’s available, and how each option works in regard to your bank account.

Most Common Online Casino Payment Options

There’s a lot of different options to fund your online casino account. These options are accepted by most operators.

Debit Cards

A debit card is a payment card directly linked to your bank account. It is essentially an electronic cash payment, as funds need to be in your bank account at the time of deposit.

When it comes to debit cards, Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted by online casinos.

This option is available on any iGaming platform and would be the preferred method in most cases. Transactions are quick, secure, and reliable. Your bank may require additional confirmation while setting up the card into your online casino account, or for each transaction, but it is a pretty seamless process.

Credit Card

Credit cards come from banks and allow users to make purchases based on credit, not needing the actual funds in the moment of the transaction.

Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted versions credit cards by operators, but some also accept Discover.

Some online casinos, particularly DraftKings and Golden Nugget have stopped accepting credit cards as an acceptable form of payment. There have also been legal discussions in some states to ban credit cards altogether for online gambling. Connecticut is the only iGaming state to ban credit cards entirely.

Like debit cards, credit card payments are quick to post to your account.

Online Banking

This cuts out the cards and transactions are done directly in your bank account through withdrawals and deposits.

With online banking, iGaming operators use different trusted companies like Trustly. Most national banks are eligible to be used, but typically do require additional verification from the banks themselves.

Transactions are typically reflective immediately to your account.

eCheck/ACH

Similar to online banking, this is an electronic check that is done through ACH (Automated Clearing House). Funds move electronically through ACH and are then reflected on your bank account.

This process is similar to what many companies use for direct deposit with their employees.

While secured, eChecks can sometimes take multiple days to process and be reflected in your bank account.

Bank Wiring

A wire transfer moves funds electronically from one account to another without the need of cash. This is a payment method typically used for international banking as opposed to funding an online casino account.

However, most operators accept this option, but is typically reserved for high rollers and has high minimum amounts for deposit or withdrawal. In some cases, deposits must be at least $10,000.

Apple Pay

A more recent, but increasingly popular option has become the use of Apple Pay for funding an account. Mobile users already utilizing an iPhone find an easy transition to using Apple Pay.

Apple Pay is a digit wallet that stores your debit cards and credit cards. Essentially you are using your debit card or credit card to make a payment, but doing it through one virtual hub. Users can choose which card they use for a transaction with Apple Pay and transactions are typically immediately processed.

PayPal

PayPal is similar to Apple Pay, but can also include your direct bank accounts as an option for online payment.

This secured method has deposits reflect almost immediately, while withdrawals can take a business day or two.

Venmo

Owned by PayPal, Venmo is another digital payment option that directly links to a users bank account or banking cards.

Skrill

Skrill is a digital banking platform that also supports a wider variety of currency. It is helpful for international transfers. While not necessarily a common option for iGaming users, many online operators accept it as a funding option.

Gift Cards

Gift cards provide the option to make deposits without having to directly use your bank account.

Multiple online operators like BetMGM, DraftKings, and PENN Entertainment (theScore Bet/Hollywood Casino) offer branded gift card options. Just purchase a card with a set value, enter the information into your online account under the “gift card” option, and funds become immediately available.

Another gift card option is Game On, which doesn’t tie itself to a specific operator, but provides different currency amounts that can be used on a range of partnering operators. Values range from $20-$500.

Play+

Play+ provides an account that users can fund to then make deposits on various online gambling or gaming platforms.

You still need to fund your account through real money means like debit cards or bank transfers, but it sets aside the funds for more of a specific reason like online casinos.

Non-Digital Payment Options

Along with all the various funding options listed above, many iGaming operators provide select options revolving around cash, or non-electronic transactions.

  • Cash at Retail Casino: Operators that run retail casinos around the US also allow for customers to visit a retail location and deposit cash into their online account. Withdrawals can also be made the same way. This form requires some leg work to get to the retail casino location, but does allow a user to avoid providing banking information.
  • Cash at Participating Retail Stores: Select online operators provide an option where customers can visit a participating store like Family Dollar, Dollar General, CVS, Walgreens, 7-Eleven, and more. The casino provides a code for the stores to scan, then the customer gives the store the amount in cash that will appear n the online account.
  • Check by Mail: This option isn’t available at all online casinos for funding, but is widely available for withdrawals. The casino will send you a physical check with your winnings, but will take 10-14 business days.
