After a dream couple of years under Xabi Alonso, Bayern Leverkusen have come back to earth a little and now face an intriguing playoff tie against Olympiacos in the Champions League.
The German outfit reached the Europa League final in 2024, chasing an incredible invincible season, only to fall at the final hurdle. Alonso would stay for one more season before departing for Real Madrid. Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag had a disastrous brief stint with the club, but Kasper Hjulmand has steadied the ship as they prepare for European battle.
The table below sets out the Olympiacos v Bayer Leverkusen odds to advance. Under the table, find my picks to move onto the round of 16.

Olympiacos v Bayer Leverkusen Pick to Advance
- Olympiacos to Advance (+150 at bet365)
Olympiacos Is Good Betting Value at Long Odds
At +150, Olympiacos are one of the few underdogs that are given a fighting chance in their playoff tie. Bookmakers obviously do not see much between the two teams; neither are serious contenders in the Champions League title odds – Leverkusen is +16250 on average and Olympiacos is +50000 – and the Greek side has all the tools to keep up with the Germans over 180 minutes.
Ayoub El Kaabi and Mehdi Taremi Give Olympiacos Dynamic Scoring Duo
Olympiacos are in a real title fight with AEK Athens domestically, and they will be relying on their dynamic duo of Ayoub El Kaabi and Mehdi Taremi to bring success. The pair are two of the top three scorers in the Greek Super League, with former Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic wedged in between them. The pair have not featured in the goals during this Champions League campaign, with Gelson Martins their top scorer in Europe. If they can get the pair firing, and Martins remains a threat, it could be a lot for Leverkusen to try lock down.
Leverkusen Struggling
The 2025/26 season has been a real welcome back to reality for Bayer Leverkusen. They will be fighting with Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, and RB Leipzig for the final Champions League place in the Bundesliga and are some 18 points adrift of Bayern Munich.
Leverkusen do have a Cup semi-final to look forward to and put four goals past St. Pauli over the weekend so they are no slouches, but it isn’t the clear-cut match-up many would expect.
Leaky Defence for Both Sides
Don’t be surprised if there are plenty of goals from both sides over the two legs. Both Bayer Leverkusen and Olympiacos conceded 14 goals in the league stage. Olympiacos will be hoping to take full advantage of the leaky defence in the opening leg in Greece and shut up shop for the return leg a week later.
The two sides are evenly matched. Bayer Leverkusen are deserving favorites with their all-around quality, but the tie as a whole feels like a coin flip. And with the odds generous in Olympiacos’s favor, it seems worth a punt.
Bayer Leverkusen have had to do it my committee this season, compared to the prolific of Olympiacos. Alejandro Grimaldo has scored an impressive four times in Europe, more than any Olympiacos player, but domestically they had to rely on Patrik Schick who has scored seven goals. In a tie that will probably be tight and cagey, you would prefer to have two forwards with a season of banging in goals rather than a by-committee approach.
There really isn’t much between these two teams, and you would be justified in picking either. But with the +120 price and the needle pointing ever so slightly more upwards for Olympiacos rather than Bayer Leverkusen, it might be a clever bet to back the Greek outfit to progress to the Last 16.
