Officially known as the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Award, the March Madness MOP is handed out after each national championship game. Distinct from the regional MOP awards – which go to the MVP of each region ahead of the Final Four – the March Madness Most Outstanding Player usually goes to someone from the championship-winning team. (But not always; more on this below.)

Betting on March Madness MOP is the same as betting on any other college basketball future. Find the market at your sportsbook and choose the player you want to bet.
If your pick is awarded March Madness MOP, your bet will cash. For example, if you bet $100 on Cameron Boozer to win MOP at +355, you will profit $355 if the Duke freshman does win the award.

March Madness MOP Betting Trends & Tips
The MOP winner has come from the winning team every year since 1983, when Houston’s Hakeem Olajuwon won the award despite his Cougars falling to NC State by a bucket in the title game.
Each of the last six winners was an upperclassman (either junior or senior). The last freshman to win the award was Duke’s Tyus Jones back in 2015.
Ten of the last 11 March Madness MOP awards have gone to guards. The only frontcourt players to win the award in that span was UConn’s Adama Sanogo in 2023.
Past March Madness MOP Winners
In the 86-year history of the award, the March Madness MOP has come from the team that lost the championship game 12 times. However, the most-recent was Hakeem Olajuwon in 1983.
Each of the last 41 winners has come from the national championship-winning squad. So, if your sportsbook of choice allows it, consider a correlated parlay with your MOP pick’s team in the March Madness championship odds.
