The Maple Leafs GM search is moving fast. Frank Seravalli reported on April 20 that Toronto has reached the finalist stage, with a hire possibly landing as early as the end of this week.
The board has caught up to the noise. Mike Gillis is now the +100 favorite at bet365 after weeks of momentum building around his name, while Sunny Mehta has been pulled from the market entirely after being hired by the Devils.
Here are the next Maple Leafs GM odds, candidate breakdown and my prediction.
Next Maple Leafs GM Odds
Gillis at +100 is the only short price on this board worth taking. Kevyn Adams at +550 and Chris Pronger at +650 are next in the Maple Leafs GM odds, but neither has been tied to Toronto’s finalist round in any concrete reporting.
Adams is a sitting NHL GM in Buffalo, and Pronger is a Hall of Fame name, so those numbers look more like name recognition than anything tied to the search.
Then there’s Paul Bissonnette at +10000, which is the line of the board. I love Biz as much as the next guy, but if the Leafs hire a Barstool podcaster as their GM, I’ll eat the puck. Same energy with Jay Rosehill at +5000 and Jeff Tambellini at the same number.

Next Maple Leafs GM Candidates
Outside of Gillis, Brandon Pridham at +1000 is the other live name worth a look in the Maple Leafs GM candidates group. He’s the current assistant GM with 12 years in the organization, he’s reportedly on board with Pelley’s analytical direction, and he already knows the cap situation inside and out. The price is fair for an internal hire who could slot in without a learning curve.
Mark Hunter at +1200 is a credible long shot if Toronto wants amateur scouting muscle attached to the GM role. Bill Scott at +850 fits the data-friendly mold as another assistant GM type, and his price lines up with the broader pattern of the search leaning toward analytics-first candidates over the recycled names.
The names I’d stay off entirely: Mats Sundin at +1000, Doug Armstrong and Jason Spezza both at +2000, plus the cluster at +2500 (Doug Wilson, George McPhee, Hayley Wickenheiser, Marc Bergevin).
Sundin is more likely to land in an advisory role if he comes back at all, and Armstrong was an early speculative favorite at other books but doesn’t fit the data-centric brief Pelley laid out at his press conference.
Next Maple Leafs GM Prediction
- Mike Gillis (+100 at bet365)
SPORTSBOOK
My next Maple Leafs GM prediction is Mike Gillis at +100. He’s already had multiple conversations with MLSE CEO Keith Pelley, reporting has him as the frontrunner heading into the final week, and the market is treating this like a coin flip with him on one side and the rest of the field on the other.
The fit checks the big box Pelley laid out after firing Brad Treliving: the next GM has to be data-centric. Gillis has been out of an NHL front office for over a decade and spent that time leaning into analytics and player-development research, which lines up with the profile MLSE described better than any of the recycled names floating around the rumor mill.
+100 means a 50% chance of landing the job, which seems low given how publicly the Leafs have signaled their direction and how quickly the timeline is moving. The main knock on Gillis is pushback from a chunk of the Toronto fanbase, but ownership has never picked a GM based on fan polling. If Pelley means what he said about evidence-based decisions, Gillis is the cleanest match on the short list.
Gillis at +100 is the play. He’s my next Maple Leafs GM prediction, and that price won’t stick around once Toronto makes the call.
