The Spurs will look to take a 3-1 series stranglehold this afternoon when they face the Blazers in Portland. Online sportsbooks like their chances, pegging San Antonio as 5.5-point favorites in the NBA odds. That line suggests that superstar Victor Wembanyama will likely dress, but the Spurs franchise player is currently listed as a game-time decision with his concussion.

Tip-off for Game 4 of this Western Conference First Round series is set for 3:30 PM ET, with the action broadcasting nationally on ESPN from the Moda Center in Portland.

My top bet this afternoon is the Spurs -5.5. Behind elite playmaking from De’Aaron Fox and the explosive scoring of Stephon Castle, San Antonio cruised to a Game 3 victory without Wemby to take a 2-1 series lead.

San Antonio is a top NBA Championship odds contender and a highly profitable 5-2 against the spread as a favorite over their last seven contests. Conversely, Portland has fallen off a cliff in this exact spot, going an abysmal 1-6 straight up at home as an underdog over its last seven games.

The big discrepancy between these two teams lies at the offensive end. Even without Wembanyama, San Antonio put up 120 points last time out, shooting 47% from the field and 48% from three. The Spurs have proved to be resilient without their star all season long, going 12-6 while averaging 120.7 points per outing.

Portland on the other hand has struggled to put up offense all campaign, and the postseason has been no exception. The Blazers rank 11th out of 16 playoff teams in both offensive rating and effective field goal percentage. Even with Webmy and his shot blocking prowess on the sidelines, Portland managed only 108 points on 41% shooting in Game 3.

With or without Wembanyama, I trust the Spurs to put up points and outpace the Blazers anemic shooting.

Spurs vs Blazers Injury Report

Player NamePositionInjuryStatusFantasy/Betting Impact
Victor WembanyamaCConcussionDay To DayMassive impact on rebounding and spacing. Prop bets hinge entirely on his clearance.
Damian LillardPGAchillesOut for SeasonSustained absence means Jrue Holiday and Scoot Henderson command primary usage.
Jordan McLaughlinPGAnkleDay To DayReduces backcourt depth; ensures heavy minutes and playmaking duties for De’Aaron Fox.
David Jones GarciaSFAnkleOut for SeasonMinimal impact; Spurs’ wing rotation adjusted to his absence months ago.

As of Sunday morning, San Antonio is still trying to get Wembanyama cleared from concussion protocol. This situation will need to be monitored right up until tip-off, just like in Game 3.

Heading into Friday’s contest, all signs were pointing to Wemby suiting up, so the fact that he was unable to go suggests there may have been a setback. If he’s ruled out, expect the spread to move in Portland’s favor, opening up even more value on San Antonio to cover.

Spurs vs Blazers Odds

Odds as of April 26. Claim the DraftKings promo code to bet on the NBA Playoffs today.

Looking at the Spurs vs Blazers odds, DraftKings is offering the best odds on a Spurs cover at -105. Totalwise, Bet365 has the best price on both over and under 218.5 at -110. Game 3 is the lone contest in this series to eclipse that number, with both Games 1 and 2 falling well below 218.5 points.

Spurs vs Blazers Public Betting Splits

As for the Game 4 NBA public betting splits, the handle strongly aligns with my official prediction. The Spurs are commanding 65.5% of the total money on the spread, compared to 59.1% of the betting tickets. That suggests the bigger money bettors are aligned with my thinking and are willing to lay the points.

Total-wise, there is extreme consensus on the over. That side of the total is taking in a staggering 91.6% of the tickets and 91.0% of the overall money.
