The Philadelphia Flyers are one of only four teams in NHL history to overcome a 3-0 deficit in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. At this point, they have to be very nervous that they might be a part of history, from the other perspective.
Pittsburgh dropped the first three games to its Pennsylvania rivals, but has battled back with two huge victories to make this a series. Online sportsbooks expect Philly to be able to close out the Pens on Wednesday night to avoid a Game 7.
Philadelphia is a -122 moneyline favorite in Game 6 tonight in the NHL odds, after dropping the last two duels 4-2 and 3-2. Keep reading for my official game pick, favorite player prop and how to watch this epic rivalry clash.
Penguins vs Flyers Prediction Game 6
- Over 5.5 Goals (-120 at Sports Interaction)
My favorite bet tonight is for there to be plenty of goals. In both matchups in Philly for this series, six or more goals have been tallied. Widening the lens, four of the last five tilts between these two combatants at Xfinity Mobile Arena have resulted in six or more combined snipes.
Admittedly, I’m not incredibly confident in this wager, given that Arturs Silovs has started the last two games for the Pens and has posted a .920 save %. Dan Vladar has been solid between the pipes for the Flyers also, with a .914 save %.
I can’t help but shake in a desperation game like this; the sticks will be gripped extra tightly. In the regular season, Silovs had a 3.07 GAA & .888 save %. I expect him to regress somewhat to the mean, as opposed to his fantastic last two outings. There’s also a potential empty net goal lurking if Pittsburgh is super desperate late in the game, which could add to the tally of 6+ goals.
The Flyers vs Penguins skirmish is expected to produce a score of 3.53-336, according to our SBD formula. That dovetails perfectly with my selection of six or more combined goals being scored.
Penguins vs Flyers Game 6 Prop Pick
- Rasmus Ristolainen Over 0.5 Points (+130 at FanDuel)
Moving over to the NHL props, where I love Flyers blueliner Rasmus Ristolainen to get on the scoresheet at plus money. He’s racked up five points in the series, good for the lead in team scoring. Since he picked up just 14 points in 44 regular-season games, sportsbooks still aren’t bullish on him continuing to fill the stat sheet.
However, I always look for market inequalities, and absolutely love wagering on a player prop that pays out plus money, for that extra juice. He had two helpers in his latest outing in Game 5, so I’m going to roll with the Philly highest scoring player in this showdown.
