  • The Orlando Magic are one win away from a massive upset over the top seeded Detroit Pistons
  • Betting odds and prop picks for this crucial Game 5 battle with Detroit battling to stave off elimination
  • Read below for my favorite prop bet for tonight’s battle and the betting lines

The Orlando Magic travel to face the Detroit Pistons looking to become just the seventh #8 seed to dispatch a #1 seed in NBA playoff history. Game 5 tips off at 7:00 PM ET / 4:00 PM PT from Little Caesars Arena on Amazon Prime Video in the USA and TSN in Canada.

Detroit battles to stave off elimination, following a pair of Magic victories in Orlando to extend the series lead to 3-1. Despite being down, the NBA odds have installed the Pistons as massive favorites to continue on in this series. Once considered a solid contender in the NBA Championship odds, Detroit is just fighting to keep playing at this point.

Magic vs Pistons Picks and Predictions

  • The Pick: Magic +10.5 (-115 at BetMGM)

When hunting for betting value in this skirmish, the 10.5-point spread at BetMGM stands out as a hefty piece of lumber to lay in a grinding postseason clash. While Detroit is a formidable 5-1 straight up at home as a favorite over their last six games, giving double digits to an opponent that’s won four of five (dating back to the regular season) against the favorites is very intriguing.

The Magic are 4-1 ATS as an underdog over their last five games. Conversely, Detroit suffers from favorite fatigue, covering the number just once in four attempts this series. Even though Orlando’s offense has sputtered, their league-best 96.3 Defensive Rating keeps games tight. I am taking the Magic +10.5 (-115) to cover the spread.

  • Best Player Prop: Cade Cunningham Over 28.5 Points (-110 at BetMGM)

From a player prop perspective, I am targeting Cade Cunningham Over 28.5 Points. Detroit’s offensive engine will be relied upon heavily at home. With the team shooting a playoff-worst 27.5% from beyond the arc, Cunningham will be forced to shoulder an immense usage rate and dial in from the perimeter to keep his squad afloat.

Though he hasn’t reached that benchmark in the last three outings, he did so in five straight vs Orlando prior to that. In a desperate situation like the Pistons are in now, I expect him to get countless looks and go over the total.

ORL vs DET Public Betting Splits

Moneyline: In the NBA public betting splits straight-up winner market, the Pistons are drawing the majority of the tickets at 74% and an even higher 79% of the overall handle.

Spread: In the spread market, 79% of wagers are on the underdog Magic, which supports my prediction. 77% of the money is on Orlando to cover the gaudy spread.

Game Total: Bettors are flocking to a shootout in the totals market. The Over is generating a massive 69% of the tickets and 66% of the money percentage.

Magic vs Pistons Game 5 Injury Report

Player NamePositionInjuryStatus
Franz Wagner (ORL)SFCalfDoubtful
Jonathan Isaac (ORL)PFKneeDoubtful
Kevin Huerter (DET)SGAdductorQuestionable

Paolo Banchero told reporters after shootaround that the team isn’t expecting Franz Wagner for Game 5. Jonathan Isaac’s doubtful tag also hurts Orlando’s bench, meaning deeper reserves must step up against Detroit’s half-court sets. On the other side, if Kevin Huerter cannot go, it only strengthens my Cade Cunningham points prop angle.
