  • The Philadelphia 76ers fight to stave off elimination against the Boston Celtics in Game 6 Thursday
  • The Celtics are -6.5 point favorites as they battle to advance to the second round

The Boston Celtics will yet again attempt to eliminate the Philadelphia 76ers in NBA first round action Thursday night. Philly kept their playoff hope alive with a resounding 113-97 victory in Game 5, but will need their first win on their home court in this series to keep it going.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, with live coverage broadcasting on Peacock and NBC Sports in the United States and TSN in Canada. The NBA odds have installed Boston as the -6.5 road favorites, and they’re very much in the conversation in the NBA Championship odds as the third favorite. Continue reading for my analysis and best bets for tonight’s tilt.

Celtics vs 76ers Prediction & Best Bets

  • The Pick: Under 212.5 Points (-110 at DraftKings)

The data points toward a defensive, slow halfcourt skirmish between Boston and Philly. The Under has hit in eight of Philadelphia’s last ten games, a tremendous success rate for under bettors. The trend mirrors the other side of the floor; the Over hit in only one of Boston’s last five games as a playoff favorite. Elimination games naturally breed tighter rotations and higher defensive intensity.

I am confidently playing Under 212.5 (-110) at DraftKings with five of the last seven duels between these two landing on the under 212.5 point total.

  • Best Player Prop: Joel Embiid Under 28.5 Points (-120 at BetMGM)

For my top player prop, I am looking directly at Philadelphia’s franchise anchor. If the 76ers are going to keep pace with Boston’s fast-paced offense, Joel Embiid has to dominate the usage rate. You can find his total points line at 28.5 at BetMGM, but I expect Boston to suffocate him and make anyone else beat them. In his latest outing, Embiid put up 33 points, which was the first time in his last ten meetings that he’s hit the 29+ point benchmark vs the Celtics.

Celtics vs 76ers Public Betting Splits

Moneyline: In the NBA public betting splits, the betting public is confidently backing the road favorites. Currently, 78% of the tickets and 65% of the money is on the Boston to close the series out.

Spread: Bettors are confident that Philadelphia can keep this close, with 68% of the money and 62% of cash on the underdog Sixers to cover +6.5.

Game Total: In the total market, a staggering 92% of both wagers and handle is hammering the Over, which flies in the face of my prediction.
