The Lakers travel to the Toyota Center to face the Rockets for Game 6 tonight, looking to close out Houston. Tip-off is set for 6:30 pm PT, 9:30 pm ET, with the playoff action broadcasting live on Amazon Prime Video across the USA, and on Sportsnet in Canada.

This will mark LA’s third chance to eliminate the Rockets, but online sportsbooks don’t like their chances. Houston is currently listed as a 3.5-point favorite in the NBA odds, in a game with a 205.5-point total.

I’ve got four bets for this potential elimination game, led by Lakers +3.5. The Rockets are a dreadful 6-11 against the spread after a win over their last 17 games. Their cover rate has completely fallen off a cliff in these post-victory spots. On the flip side, the Lakers thrive when their backs are against the wall. The Lakers boast an impressive 12-5 straight-up record against opponents with a winning record over their last 17 games.

When we look under the hood at the statistical mismatches, the Lakers are operating with elite precision, posting a playoff-best 49.0% field goal percentage compared to the Rockets’ icy 42.0%. Given their series lead, elite shooting efficiency, and the opportunity to close out on the road, taking the Lakers to cover the spread holds the most value.

When it comes to the game total, the situational trends heavily point toward an offensive surge. The over has hit in 4 of the Lakers’ last 5 road games against top-10 scoring defenses, and the over has hit in 3 of the Rockets’ last 4 home games following a win. With the Rockets facing elimination, their offense will likely adopt a much faster-paced attack, forcing a track meet.

In a closeout game, I am backing the King. With the Lakers needing a strong road effort to close out the series, James will inevitably command the offense and dominate the shot distribution. His points line is set at 22.5 according to our NBA player prop analyzer, which is simply too low given his usage and the lack of Luka Doncic in the lineup.

With the Rockets facing elimination, they will run their half-court sets directly through their elite center. Sengun will face immense volume in the paint against Ayton, making the over on 20.5 points an extremely sharp play.

As for the NBA starting lineups, Doncic and Kevin Durant remain out for their respective teams. Houston has won the last two games without KD, but don’t stand much of a chance in the NBA Championship odds if he doesn’t return soon.
