After Cameron Young took down the field at the Cadillac Championship with a wire-to-wire six stroke victory, the PGA Tour heads to another signature event, the Truist Championship. This time around, world #1 Scottie Scheffler has opted not to tee it up, but Rory McIlroy will make his first appearance since his second green jacket at the Masters. The Northern Irishman is the betting favorite, having already won this tournament at Quail Hollow Golf Club four times.

This is the last tourney (minus the opposite field event, Myrtle Beach Classic) before the second major of the year is contested, when the world’s best compete for the Wanamaker Trophy and the PGA Championship title at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania. The closing stretch at this golf course is tabbed the ‘green mile’ for a tough finish to the round. Sepp Straka is defending champion, though it wasn’t at this venue, since Quail Hollow hosted the PGA Championship last year (won by Scheffler).

I’m starting my card this week with Tommy Fleetwood at +2500, which is longer than the top-six golfers on the board. Admittedly I don’t really love the odds as I survey the choices this week, but this number is pretty reasonable. Fleetwood finally got off the schneid last year with his maiden PGA Tour victory, just like Cadillac Championship winner Cameron Young did in 2025. Fleetwood has had a very solid 2026, racking up four top 10s, with a T-4th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am his best result.

In the last 24 rounds on the main circuit, nobody is better in strokes gained: around-the-green than Fleetwood, and he’s also sixth tee-to-green.

His odds won’t jump off the page as getting a particularly amazing steal at +2500, but it’s more than fair for a player that has had struggles closing out events. However, he’s world class and is due to get going on a hot streak like Cameron Young and Matt Fitzpatrick, who have been picking off victories in 2026.

Truist Championship 2026 Picks & Value Bets

  1. Jake Knapp +4400: Jake Knapp has had a sensational 2026, with five top-8s in eight instances teeing it up. That includes one top-ten he barely missed, finishing eleventh at the Masters. The last 24 rounds on tour, Knapp is sixth in strokes gained: putting and tenth in total strokes gained. At this number, you could do a whole lot worse than wagering on Knapp, given his strong play the last few months.
  2. Sepp Straka +4900: Sepp Straka is the defending champion, though that’s a bit of a misnomer because it came at a different course last year. However, he comes in off a tie for fourth at Doral on Sunday, his third top-eight of the campaign. In 2024, he fared well at this venue, resulting in a tie for eighth.
  3. Justin Thomas +5100: I’m going back to him for the second straight week at this intriguing number. JT had a solid-if-unspectacular top 25 at the Cadillac Championship, but was T-8th at the Players Championship earlier this year. He’s now six tournament back from his back injury, and he has great vibes at this track, having won the 2017 PGA at Quail Hollow.
  4. Max Homa +11500: If you’re looking for a horse for this course, it’s none other than Max Homa. He’s won this tournament twice (2019, 2022), and was T-8th in both 2023 and 2024. He’s coming off a top-10 at the Masters just three starts ago. While winning might be a bit too much of a stretch, he’ll be interesting to monitor in the top 5/10/20 markets.
