When it comes to Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks are open for business. The question is not will there be suitors, it’s who will be willing to pay the astronomical asking price. Prediction markets are leaning towards Giannis staying put in Milwaukee, at least for the start of the 2026-27 season, establishing the Bucks as the most likely jersey for Antetokounmpo to be wearing on Opening night.
While I can see the argument for him remaining in Milwaukee, I can also envision him moving on. Below, you’ll find the updated Giannis next team odds, plus my most likely landing spot for the Bucks star.
Giannis Next Team Odds
As of the time of writing, Milwaukee is trading at 28 cents at Kalshi to retain Antetokounmpo, which is the equivalent of +257 in traditional sports betting terms. The Celtics are trading at 17 cents (+488) as the next shortest price on the board, followed by the Heat at 10 cents (+900).
Boston was one of the teams vying for the former NBA MVP odds winner prior to the trade deadline, but they’d likely need to involve a third team to make things work. The Celtics could facilitate a three-team trade with the Hawks by sending Jaylen Brown there and shipping off a plethora of picks (both theirs and Atlanta’s) to Milwaukee, but that all seems unlikely.
As for the Heat, that’s one city known for being star crazy. Miami wants to rebuild around Bam Adebayo, and how terrifying would an Antetokounmpo/Bam front court be for opposing teams.
It should be noted that Giannis is essentially on an expiring contract, with next season guaranteed in his deal before a player option in 2027. That gives him leverage to choose to a team based on whether he would agree to sign there, which is significant given the King’s ransom it would take to acquire him.
Giannis to Miami Makes So Much Sense
- Giannis Next Team Odds Pick: Miami Heat (10¢ at Kalshi)
I think you can throw out the Western Conference teams listed on the oddsboard. Antetokounmpo has been very upfront about wanting to stay in the Eastern Conference, and who can blame him. Out west, the NBA Championship odds favorite Thunder have the look of a potential dynasty, while the Spurs are clearly the next most talented team. I can’t imagine Giannis wants any part of seeing NBA DPOY odds staple Victor Wembanyama on a regular basis, nor would he want to join an inferior team to try and slay those giants.
The price for Antetokounmpo is steep, but the Heat can easily accommodate. They have the luxury of offering a collection of draft picks and expiring contracts, as well as impact players who can help the Bucks stay competitive during this transition period.
Tyler Herro would have to be at the center of the package, and they could also include multiple first round picks (2030, 2032) along with young talent like Kel’el Ware. Miami can’t trade its first round pick next month (#13), however they could make the selection and then include him as part of any potential deal.
The Heat can also offer up Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell, and while they wouldn’t be in Milwaukee long term plans, they are on expiring contracts and can help make the financial works.
At the end of the day, Miami is one of the few organizations that has a proven track record of acquiring superstar talent and getting the most out of them. They have a championship level culture and a front office known for making aggressive moves. It’s also one of the top destinations in terms of lifestyle for players, and Giannis could be the next future Hall-of-Famer to don the Heat jersey.
I realize he was quite adamant about joining the Knicks last offseason, but we can assume that ship has sailed. New York appears to be on the verge of a long awaited Finals appearance, making Miami a nice consolation prize for Team Giannis.
