The 46-27 Atlanta Braves battle to avoid a surprising three-game sweep at the hands of the 31-43 San Francisco Giants Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PM ET / 4:15 PM PT at Truist Park. You can watch the broadcast on NBC Sports Bay Area and BravesVision.

San Fran has won three straight, while their counterparts have dropped three in a row. Despite that, they’re the underdogs in the MLB odds. In this series, the Giants have 7-2 and 7-5 victories, and they’ve won eight of their last nine against the Braves. Keep reading for my analysis of this duel, with my prediction and favorite MLB player prop.

Giants vs Braves Predictions & Picks

  • The Pick: Braves Moneyline (-138 at FanDuel)
  • MLB Player Prop Pick: Landen Roupp Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+126 at FanDuel)

My prediction for tonight centers on the pitching mismatch. The Braves hand the ball to veteran Martin Perez, who has been a model of consistency this season. Perez boasts a stellar 2.90 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP across his starts.

On the other side, the Giants will rely on Landen Roupp. While Roupp possesses solid strikeout stuff, his 4.24 ERA and 1.29 WHIP leave him vulnerable against a Braves lineup slugging .423 as a team. With the Braves pitching staff holding a tremendous 3.30 ERA compared to the 4.47 ERA of the Giants, I’m going with Atlanta avoiding the sweep.

Despite Roupp not being as solid, my favorite MLB player props selection is him to register over 5.5 strikeouts. His elite 9.93 K/9 rate shows he has the pure stuff to miss bats. At plus-money, backing him to record six punchouts offers a high-value edge. In nine of 14 starts, the Giants hurler has reached the six-strikeout benchmark.

Tonight’s MLB probable pitchers matchup presents a fascinating contrast in styles. Roupp brings swing-and-miss stuff to the mound. His 2.96 FIP points to a significant amount of bad luck regarding run sequencing and defensive support behind him. However, his 1.29 WHIP highlights areas where opposing offenses have capitalized.

Perez holds a 5-3 record backed by a pristine 2.90 ERA. While he does not overpower hitters quite like Roupp, Perez excels at inducing weak contact, limiting opponents to a .210 batting average. Over his last 41.2 innings, Perez has posted a reliable 3.24 ERA and a superb 1.10 WHIP.
