  • The Philadelphia Phillies are -155 road favorites as they visit the Miami Marlins
  • Miami has won the first two games of this set, and have beaten Philly three times in a row

The Miami Marlins have the brooms out Wednesday, looking to seep the visiting Philadelphia Phillies.

Miami has closed to within two games of the third and final Wild Card berth in the NL, currently held by the Arizona Diamondbacks, with Philadelphia one spot ahead.

Despite the Marlins having won three straight over their NL East rivals, the books like the road team in the MLB odds.

First pitch goes at 12:10pm ET today from loanDepot Park in Miami, with MLB TV providing the broadcast coverage.

PHI Phillies vs MIA Marlins Picks

The MLB probable pitchers matchup — featuring a proven, top-of-the-rotation arm against an opener struggling to find his footing — is definitely advantage Philadelphia.

The Phillies hand the ball to Jesús Luzardo, who has been an elite strikeout artist this season. Luzardo racks up a dominant 11.18 strikeouts per nine innings alongside a stellar 3.31 ERA.

When looking at MLB batter vs pitcher stats, the current iteration of the Marlins lineup has a substantial sample size against Luzardo, but the overall results highlight the left-hander’s dominance. Luzardo has been particularly tough on Heriberto Hernández, racking up seven strikeouts over 11 hitless at-bats. Xavier Edwards has also struggled to make solid contact, managing just two hits in 16 at-bats (.125 AVG).

Conversely, the Marlins counter with Ryan Gusto, who is searching for his first victory of the 2026 campaign. Operating primarily in a short-stint capacity, he averages just 3.52 innings per start. Gusto has struggled to limit traffic across 34.0 innings of work, posting a 4.74 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.

Given his role as a short-stint starter, the Phillies have a much smaller sample size against him. The top of the lineup—including stars like Turner, Bryson Stott, and Harper—are a combined 0-for-6 against the right-hander.

Despite the top-of-the-order struggles, the middle and bottom tiers have found quick success. Brandon Marsh leads the charge, going 2-for-3 (.667 AVG) with the lone extra-base hit. Justin Crawford has matched Marsh’s 2-for-3 output, signaling that depth could pose early problems for the Marlins.

With Luzardo on the mound, the road team possesses a distinct defensive advantage that makes them my definitive pick to win outright.

Phillies vs Marlins Prediction

The most glaring anomaly lies within the Phillies’ offensive profile on the road. They boast an elite average exit velocity of 89.3 mph away from their home stadium. Yet, the surface-level results have been disastrous. They rank 29th in road batting average (.220) and last in road OPS (.644).

The Marlins execute an entirely different offensive philosophy at loanDepot park. They sit 25th in home average exit velocity but string hits together to maintain a .250 batting average. Averaging 1.16 stolen bases per game at home, they possess a highly aggressive base-stealing attack.

For bettors browsing MLB player props, understanding these tendencies is crucial. Looking for Bryce Harper or Trea Turner to surpass their MLB Total Bases Props is a logical angle. The Phillies thrive when oddsmakers expect them to win, posting a 47-27 record (63.5% win rate) as favorites this season. Meanwhile, playing from behind does not suit the Marlins well. They are just 21-34 (38.2%) when listed as the underdog this year.

Looking at Polymarket, the Phillies currently command a 60-cent price to win, compared to just 41 cents for the home underdog. The combination of a front-line starter in Luzardo and sluggers ready to exploit a vulnerable rotation makes backing the favored road team the smartest play on the board.
