  • Arsenal are ML favorites (-178) in this English Premier League match at Villa Park
  • The attacking tendencies of both teams suggest Over 2.5 goals (-113) is a strong play in Arsenal vs Aston Villa
  • Back Arsenal to score multiple goals (O 1.5, -150) against a patched defense that lost key players this summer

Arsenal travel to Villa Park for their first away match of the Premier League season after opening their title defence with a 3-0 win over newly promoted Coventry City. Aston Villa, by contrast, were beaten 4-0 by Brighton, conceding all four goals before halftime. The Gunners are the deserved road favorite, although Villa’s record against reigning champions at home makes this a potentially awkward test.

The match is scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2026, at 3:00 pm ET at Villa Park. Jared Gillett is the referee. Arsenal will be aiming to make it two wins from two, while Unai Emery’s side needs an immediate response after a disastrous opening weekend.

Aston Villa vs Arsenal Team News

Villa’s summer rebuild has added another layer of uncertainty. Several important players from last season’s successful squad have departed, including Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Lucas Digne, Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Martinez. Villa finished fourth last season and won the Europa League, but only five starters from that final are expected to remain at the club.

New arrivals such as goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Matteo Ruggeri, Leon Goretzka and Nicolas Jackson could feature. Villa’s lack of continuity was exposed by Brighton, particularly when they tried to play through a committed press. The hosts gave the ball away repeatedly in central areas and were charged with 19 high turnovers, a vulnerability Arsenal may look to attack with aggressive pressure.

Arsenal can also test Villa by switching play toward the left. Riccardo Calafiori’s forward movement and Christos Tzolis’ width helped create overloads against Coventry, and a similar 2-on-1 against Villa’s right-back could be an important route to chances.

Aston Villa vs Arsenal Picks and Predictions

After analyzing team news, projected lineups and the stats from both teams, inclding the head-to-head records, I’ve identified my three best bets for Monday’s slate.

Pick 1: Arsenal moneyline (-178 at Polymarket)

Arsenal’s opening performance offers a clear statistical case for backing the visitors to win, but not necessarily by multiple goals. The Gunners created much more attacking volume, while Villa conceded four times and failed to put a shot on target against Brighton. Arsenal’s press should be particularly effective if Villa persists with risky buildup from the back. Villa’s home record against reigning champions and Arsenal’s defensive absences make the moneyline a more appropriate choice than an aggressive -1.5-goal handicap.

Pick 2: Over 2.5 total goals (-113 at Polymarket)

Four of the last five listed meetings cleared this total, and both opening games produced at least three goals. Villa’s defensive disorganization and Arsenal’s attacking quality point toward chances at both ends, even though Villa’s recent August scoring record is poor. The Over is the preferred angle if the market remains at 2.5.

Pick 3: Arsenal over 1.5 team goals (-150 at Kalshi)

Arsenal scored three times in the opener and should find opportunities against a Villa defense that struggled to cope with pressure. Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz all scored in the first round, and Arsenal’s ability to create overloads on the flank gives them multiple ways to reach two goals.

The opening-match numbers show why Arsenal sits at the top of the betting board. The Gunners controlled 65% of the ball, produced 19 shots and registered six attempts on target against Coventry. Villa had only 28% possession and six shots in their loss to Brighton, with none on target.

The last 10 meetings at Villa Park have produced no draws, with Arsenal winning six and Villa four. Villa have also defeated the reigning champions at home in each of the last three seasons, so the price on Arsenal should not be treated as a guarantee. Start betting at Caesars now

Aston Villa vs Arsenal Odds

Moneyline+450+290-204
Total GoalsUn 2.5 (-108)Ov 2.5 (-130)

Odds as of August 31 at 8:54 am ET from BetMGM. Check the sportsbook before betting because prices can change.

Arsenal are listed at -204 to win, compared with +450 for Villa and +290 for the draw. The raw three-way prices imply a hold of approximately 10.9%; after normalizing for that margin, the market expectation is roughly 60.5% Arsenal, 23.1% draw and 16.4% Villa.

A $10 Arsenal moneyline wager would return $14.90 in total, including the original stake, while a $10 Villa bet would return $55.00 if the home side pulls off the upset.

The opening handicap was Arsenal -1.5 at -143, with Villa +1.5 at +100. The total opened at 2.5 with both sides at -118. Current prices show Arsenal -1.5 at +135, Villa +1.5 at -192 and the Over at -130. That movement suggests the market has become more cautious about a comfortable Arsenal win while retaining its preference for goals.
