Sunday’s NHL schedule only has two games, but both give prop bettors something to work with. The Columbus Blue Jackets visit the Minnesota Wild at 6 pm ET, then the Carolina Hurricanes head to Calgary as road favorites in the NHL odds against the Flames at 8 pm ET.
My card has one assists play, one shots on goal total and one anytime goalscorer bet. Two of the three are priced at theScore Bet, and new users can check out the theScore Bet promo code before puck drop.
If you want more angles beyond these three, our NHL player props page has the rest of the board. Here are my NHL player props and anytime goalscorer picks for Sunday, Oct. 18.
NHL Player Props Today
My NHL player props today start with Sebastian Aho to record an assist at -115, which carries about a 53.5% implied chance. Zach Werenski’s 4+ shots at +114 implies roughly 46.7%, and it’s the same threshold as Over 3.5.
Kirill Kaprizov to score at +105 works out to about a 48.8% implied probability. He’s day-to-day, so that bet only stands if he’s in the lineup.
Best NHL Prop Bets and Anytime Goalscorer Picks for Sunday
I’m starting my NHL prop bets with a Hurricanes playmaker in Calgary, then heading back to Minnesota for both sides of Blue Jackets vs Wild.
1. NHL Prop Pick: Sebastian Aho Over 0.5 Assists
- Sebastian Aho Over 0.5 Assists (-115 at theScore Bet)
My Aho assists pick starts with his strong record in these road matchups. Going back across seasons, he’s recorded at least one assist in six of his last seven road games against teams with losing records, averaging 1.3 assists in those games.
The current matchup supports that historical trend: Carolina is a Stanley Cup odds contender that scores 3.78 goals per game, while Calgary allows 4.86.
The Flames’ team save percentage sits at .826, and they’re giving up 28.57 shots per game. Calgary’s struggles in net give Carolina’s setup man a favorable matchup.
Special teams add another route to an assist. Carolina’s power play is converting at 27%, while Calgary’s penalty kill sits at 80%, so a few Flames penalties would give the Canes center more chances to set up a goal.
2. NHL Prop Pick: Zach Werenski 4+ Shots on Goal
- Zach Werenski 4+ Shots on Goal (+114 at bet365)
Werenski likes to shoot against Minnesota. He’s gone over 3.5 shots in four of his last five games against the Wild, averaging 5.8 shots on goal in those meetings.
Those games span past seasons, so I’m using them as support rather than the whole case. His road numbers point the same way, with the Over cashing in three of his last four road games at a 4.0-shot average.
Minnesota allows just 26.75 shots per game, which is the one number working against this Blue Jackets vs Wild prop. Still, the Columbus blueliner’s history in this matchup makes plus money on four shots worth taking. Grab the bet365 bonus code to tail this pick.
3. NHL Prop Pick: Kirill Kaprizov Anytime Goal (If Active)
- Kirill Kaprizov Anytime Goalscorer (+105 at theScore Bet), if active
Kaprizov is day-to-day and his status for Blue Jackets vs Wild hasn’t been confirmed. This pick only applies if he’s in the lineup.
If he plays, the special teams matchup is hard to ignore. Minnesota’s power play is clicking at 33.3%, while Columbus is killing just 66.7% of its penalties.
The Blue Jackets are also allowing 3.17 goals per game with an .871 team save percentage. The Wild score 3.25 goals per game, so this sets up as a good night for Minnesota’s offense.
At +105, about a 48.8% implied chance, I’ll back Kaprizov to light the lamp and wrap up my NHL player props today, provided he’s cleared to play.
