The Memphis Tigers host the East Carolina Pirates on Thursday, October 22, at 7:30 p.m. ET at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. Both programs enter this Week 8 matchup looking to bounce back from Week 7 defeats. Memphis fell 31-17 to Tulane, while East Carolina suffered a 30-17 road loss at UAB (in overtime).
The East Carolina vs Memphis spread market prices Memphis to win by more than 10.5 points at 48¢ Yes. Compare the latest college football odds board.
East Carolina vs. Memphis Picks
My East Carolina vs Memphis picks separate the likely winner from the price worth paying. The Tigers are 78¢ to win on Kalshi, above my below-75¢ entry target. Their team total offers the better current opportunity.
East Carolina vs. Memphis Pick #1: Memphis to Win
- Memphis win lean — wait at 78¢; buy only below 75¢ on Kalshi
Memphis holds a massive straight-up edge, racking up 35.4 points and 512.6 total yards per game compared to East Carolina’s 23.5 points and 339.5 yards. The most glaring issue for the Pirates is drive sustainability. East Carolina converts just 31.3% of its third downs, meaning it isn’t getting enough bites at the apple to keep pace.
Memphis has scored on 78.1% of its red-zone trips, including touchdowns and field goals. That supports the win lean, but it does not justify chasing any price. I am waiting for a Yes price below 75¢ rather than buying at the current 78¢.
East Carolina vs. Memphis Pick #2: Memphis Team Total Over
- Pick: Memphis team total Over 32.5 — Yes at 50¢ on Kalshi
Memphis needs at least 33 points for this contract to win. The 50¢ Yes quote is below my 55¢ ceiling. A winning contract pays $1 before fees; the card may display the latest traded probability rather than the available buy price.
Memphis is more than capable of doing the heavy lifting offensively, and East Carolina’s inability to extend drives means the Tigers should dominate the field position battle. Instead of relying on East Carolina to contribute to a game-long shootout, my preferred angle isolates the Memphis offense.
East Carolina’s poor third-down conversion rate gives Memphis a route to more possessions. That is why I prefer the Tigers’ team-total Over to relying on both offenses in a game-total bet. Compare prices across the prediction market apps before locking in a position.
Memphis averages 35.4 points per game, toppling 33 points in four of seven games. In American play, the Tigers scored 59 against Charlotte and 38 against UAB, but only managing 17 last week at Tulane. The Tigers have the American’s leader in passing touchdowns (Marcus Stokes), rushing yards (Jaylin Carter), and yards per catch (Braylon Burnside), displaying an explosive and efficient offense.
East Carolina has a middle-of-the-pack defense (23.8 points per game, 72nd in FBS), but they have held five straight opponents to 30 points or fewer. Granted, the Pirates did lose to App State 27-24 and UAB 30-17, but still. The lone team to score more than 30 points on the Pirates this season is Alabama (48).
East Carolina vs. Memphis Predictions
Prediction: Memphis wins outright and controls the field position battle.
The overarching theme is a highly productive home offense attempting to overpower an opportunistic visiting defense. Memphis has tallied 176 first downs on the year, driven by an excellent 45.1% third-down conversion rate, so its offense operates with real sustainability.

East Carolina vs. Memphis Team Stats Comparison
Memphis leads the offensive categories in this table, gaining 173.1 more yards per game and converting third downs at a rate nearly 14 points higher. East Carolina’s best counter is its pass rush, which has one more sack than Memphis in one fewer game, but a -2 turnover differential leaves the Pirates little margin for error.
Offense vs. Defense: Where the Mismatches Lie
To keep Memphis from dictating the pace, East Carolina must lean heavily on its defensive front, which has logged 17.0 sacks and five interceptions. The Pirates will need every bit of that pressure to disrupt quarterback Marcus Stokes. If East Carolina can’t convert pressure into stops, Stokes has the pocket presence to exploit the mismatch.
Memphis isn’t one-dimensional, either. The Tigers have racked up 1,664 rushing yards with a ground game that complements Stokes. Check available markets on the college football player props board.
East Carolina will likely try to establish the run and shorten the game behind its running backs. On the outside, Ray Ray Joseph Jr. will hunt soft spots against a Memphis defense with seven interceptions and four fumble recoveries. If the Pirates keep handing the ball back after third-down failures, Memphis’s efficiency is simply too high to keep this close.
