Two teams stuck below .500 meet Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia, as the Anaheim Ducks visit the Flyers for a 1 pm ET puck drop at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Both clubs lean on young scorers. Philly runs through Matvei Michkov and Trevor Zegras, while Anaheim’s attack starts with Leo Carlsson and Beckett Sennecke.
Sportsbooks have a favorite here, but the crease did most of the work in my handicap. My Ducks vs Flyers prediction and picks are below.
Ducks vs Flyers Prediction
- Flyers moneyline (-125 at BetMGM)
My Ducks vs Flyers prediction is Philadelphia on the moneyline, a price that carries about a 55.6% implied chance. I’m fine paying it because the gap between these teams shows up in their own end.
Anaheim has allowed 3.10 goals per game while facing just 26.4 shots a night. Philadelphia has given up fewer goals (2.92 per game) despite seeing 31.8 shots per game. One team is getting saves, and the other isn’t.
Ducks vs Flyers Key Stats
The Ducks have the better offense on paper, scoring 2.70 goals per game to Philly’s 1.67. That’s the main reason this line isn’t steeper. The Flyers have just 20 goals in 12 games, so I’m not expecting fireworks from them.
But Philadelphia has won the last five meetings, including a 4-2 win on Jan. 6 and a 3-2 decision on March 18. Michkov is the guy who can swing a tight one. He has six goals on only 16 shots, and three of those came on the power play.
Ducks vs Flyers Goalies and Special Teams
Starting goalies remain unconfirmed for this preview, so I’m weighing both options on each side for my Ducks vs Flyers picks.
Ducks vs Flyers Goalie Stats
Philly’s floor is higher no matter who starts. Vladar sits at .900 through six starts. If Woll gets the call instead, the Flyers have the best save percentage of the four options at .917, with a 2.64 GAA.
Anaheim doesn’t have that cushion. Dostal owns an .881 save percentage over seven starts, and Husso is at .886 in three. Either way, the Ducks’ netminder is handing back goals a light Flyers offense needs.
Special teams are Anaheim’s best path to an upset. The Ducks’ power play is clicking at 21.9%, compared to 13.9% for Philly. Carlsson leads the way with nine assists and 11 points, Sennecke has five goals on 26 shots, and Jackson LaCombe is logging 26:14 a night on the blueline.
That’s the risk with this bet. Still, the Flyers don’t need to win the power play battle if their goalie outplays Anaheim’s, and that’s the edge I’m backing.
Ducks vs Flyers Odds
Odds as of Oct. 23 at BetMGM. New users can grab the BetMGM promo code before betting Saturday’s game.
The latest Ducks vs Flyers odds put Anaheim at +105, which translates to about a 48.8% chance. A $100 bet on Philly at -125 pays $80 in profit. Strip out the vig and my rough estimate lands near 53% for the Flyers and 47% for the Ducks, so the book is pricing a close game.
The Flyers are +185 to win by two or more on the puck line, roughly a 35.1% implied shot. The total sits at 6 goals, with the Over at -115 and the Under at -105. You can compare prices for the rest of Saturday’s slate on our NHL odds page.
