Virginia Tech visits Clemson in a Week 8 ACC matchup this evening. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium, with the game airing on ESPN.

The Hokies arrive at 5-2 after a 34-24 win over Georgia Tech, while Clemson sits at 4-2 following a 37-0 shutout of Charleston Southern. The two programs have taken very different paths to this point, especially on offense.

Kalshi, one of the leading prediction market apps, has this one priced close to a coin flip, which makes the matchup details matter. Below, I break down my Virginia Tech vs Clemson prediction, my two picks and the current CFB odds for tonight.

Virginia Tech vs Clemson Prediction

Virginia Tech wins outright in a game that stays more controlled than the Hokies’ scoring average suggests.

The clearest statistical edge belongs to Virginia Tech’s offense. The Hokies average 37.1 points per game behind 301.6 passing yards and 149.9 rushing yards per contest. Clemson averages 22.3 points per game, with 187.5 passing yards and 153.2 rushing yards.

Quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer has driven that production, completing 72.6% of his passes for 1,984 yards, 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Que’Sean Brown is his top target with 46 catches for 616 yards.

Clemson’s defense gives the Tigers a path to keep this close. It allows 21.5 points per game, well below what the Hokies typically score. Still, Virginia Tech’s balance gives it more ways to move the ball, and that makes the Hokies the side in this Virginia Tech vs Clemson matchup.

Virginia Tech’s higher scoring average and more productive passing game make the Hokies the preferred side. At 44¢, the contract pays $1 if Virginia Tech wins, a 56¢ profit per contract before fees.

The pass rush adds another edge. Clemson has allowed 17 sacks this season, giving Virginia Tech’s pass rush a vulnerable offensive line to attack. Pressure on an unsettled quarterback room could produce the kind of mistakes that swing a one-score game.

Virginia Tech vs Clemson Pick #2: Under 48.5

Virginia Tech vs Clemson Under 48.5

Clemson’s lower scoring average supports the Under. The Tigers are putting up 22.3 points per game, and their quarterback uncertainty limits their ceiling.

Virginia Tech’s run defense matters here, too. The Hokies allow just 87.4 rushing yards per game, which could take away Clemson’s 153.2-yard ground attack and push the Tigers into longer passing downs. Pair that with a Clemson defense allowing 21.5 points per game, and a final total in the 40s is a realistic outcome.

Kalshi prices read as implied probabilities. Clemson at 57¢ makes the Tigers a slight home favorite, while Virginia Tech at 44¢ sits just below even. The Clemson -2.5 contract costs 52¢ and wins if the Tigers win by at least three points, and the total is nearly a coin flip at 50¢ for the Over and 51¢ for the Under. Clemson Quarterback Situation

Clemson quarterback Christopher Vizzina has been out with an elbow injury since Week 2, and freshman Tait Reynolds has filled in. Clemson has not confirmed who will start tonight. Reynolds has thrown one touchdown and three interceptions this season.

That uncertainty is a big reason the Virginia Tech vs Clemson odds sit so close. A Vizzina return could move these prices, while another Reynolds start would make Virginia Tech’s pass rush an even bigger factor.
