  • No. 9 UCLA puts its perfect record on the line against Michigan State at the Rose Bowl
  • A +10 turnover margin and a stingy run defense headline the Bruins’ profile
  • Read below for my Michigan State vs UCLA prediction and best bets

The No. 9 UCLA Bruins (6-0) host the Michigan State Spartans (2-5) at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, October 24, at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS. UCLA enters as a clear home favorite in the college football odds after a hard-fought 17-7 win over Wisconsin kept it firmly in the College Football Playoff mix. UCLA is the lone unbeaten team left in the Big Ten and one of two teams (Ohio State) who is flawless in conference play.

Michigan State arrives as a road underdog after a 24-21 home loss to Northwestern, its fifth straight defeat. Below, I break down the Michigan State vs UCLA odds and where I see value on the spread and total.

UCLA -14.5

The gap between these rosters is clearest when Michigan State has the ball. Quarterback Alessio Milivojevic has been a different player away from home. In five home games, he is completing 71.3% of his passes for 207.4 yards per game with seven touchdowns and one interception.

In two road starts, those numbers drop to 49% and 113 passing yards per game, with zero touchdowns and two interceptions. He walks into a tough matchup against a UCLA defense that feasts on mistakes. The Bruins have 19 takeaways and a +10 turnover margin, while Michigan State has forced only three turnovers against eight giveaways (-5).

UCLA is second in EPA allowed per play and has yielded a successful play on just 32.1% of pass plays, the best in the country. Michigan State, meanwhile is a below-average team offensively across the board. The Spartans have also lost 11 straight road games and 13 straight against ranked opponents.

On the other side, Ty Dieffenbach completed 22 of 33 passes for 264 yards in last week’s win over Wisconsin. With Nico Iamaleava out for the season, UCLA can lean on Wayne Knight, who has 571 rushing yards on 84 carries (6.8 YPC) and 11 rushing touchdowns, plus 14 catches for 106 yards. Semaj Morgan (24 catches, 313 yards, two touchdowns) gives the passing game a reliable target.

Given Michigan State’s road struggles and inability to generate extra possessions, I’m backing the home favorite. A 51¢ price undersells a Bruins team that outscores opponents by 19.3 points per game and should win the field position battle.

Under 43.5 Points

The total offers another attractive angle, largely because I don’t see Michigan State contributing much to the scoreboard. UCLA allows just 97.7 rushing yards per game, and the Spartans have had to reshuffle their backfield. Jaziun Patterson has taken over the primary role (327 yards on 76 carries, five touchdowns) after Cam Edwards suffered a season-ending injury.

Even with Jayden Savoury leading the team with 27 catches for 261 yards, Michigan State is averaging only 21.3 points and 310.7 total yards per game.

UCLA is built to control the clock, averaging 231 rushing yards per game. I expect a heavy dose of Knight against a Spartans defense allowing 140.7 rushing yards per game, leading to long, methodical drives rather than quick strikes.

That game script makes 48¢ on the Under an appealing entry price. I project this Michigan State vs UCLA over/under staying below 43.5.

The raw metrics highlight exactly where the mismatches lie in this Big Ten matchup.

Total Yards Per Game310.7445.8
Rushing Yards Per Game119.1231.0
Rushing Yards Allowed Per Game140.797.7
Turnover Margin-5+10

UCLA holds the edge in every category above. A 14.2-point scoring gap and a 15-turnover swing in margin support the spread, while the Bruins’ ability to run the ball and shut down Michigan State’s ground game points toward a lopsided but lower-scoring script.

On Polymarket, contract prices are quoted in cents and reflect market-implied probabilities, not objective odds. A winning share pays $1, so buying UCLA -14.5 at 51¢ means risking 51¢ to win 49¢ before any fees if the Bruins win by 15 or more. The Under at 48¢ implies roughly a 48% chance the game finishes with 43 or fewer points.
