A top-five college football showdown awaits as No. 1 Miami (8-0) visits No. 4 Notre Dame (7-1), with the result carrying major implications in the College Football Playoff odds. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, at Notre Dame Stadium, with coverage on NBC and Peacock.
The undefeated Hurricanes arrive in South Bend after narrowly escaping North Carolina 38-35. Notre Dame enters with serious momentum following a decisive 35-13 win over Navy.
This matchup pits Miami’s high-flying offense against an Irish defense that just slammed the door after halftime. Below are the early Miami vs Notre Dame prediction, odds and top showdown pick.
Early Miami vs Notre Dame Prediction
- Pick: Notre Dame -5.5 (-108 at BetMGM)
Notre Dame is my pick to cover at home in this clash of National Championship odds contenders. Miami’s offense makes the Hurricanes a dangerous opponent. Still, the Irish bring a balanced attack and a defense that smothered Navy after halftime.
The 57.5-point total meanwhile, doesn’t show a ton of value on either side. The spread is the clearer recommendation, with the Fighting Irish undervalued in the early market.

Both teams enter off wins, but they won in very different ways. Here is how their most recent games stack up.
Miami’s offense keeps producing, but its last game came down to a three-point margin. Notre Dame’s second-half adjustments are the more useful takeaway than the winning margin alone. Check the college football team trends for more context on both sides.
Top-Five Showdown Pick: Notre Dame -5.5
- Pick: Notre Dame -5.5 (-108 at BetMGM)
Notre Dame’s case starts with how it closed against Navy. Navy grabbed a brief 13-7 lead, and then the Irish ripped off 28 unanswered points.
The defense drove that surge. Notre Dame held Navy to 56 total yards in the second half and 0-for-4 on third down after the break.
The offense showed balance too. Nolan James Jr. ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Jerome Bettis Jr. caught six passes for 78 yards and his first career touchdown.
Drayk Bowen left the Navy game with an injury, so his status is worth monitoring before kickoff.
Miami’s offense still demands respect. Heisman Trophy odds contender Darian Mensah completed 22 of 29 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns against North Carolina. Malachi Toney caught seven passes for 75 yards and two scores.
Mark Fletcher added three total touchdowns, including a receiving score. The Hurricanes’ defense also made a key play when Marquise Lightfoot forced a Billy Edwards Jr. fumble. Justin Scott recovered, which set up a 9-yard Mensah-to-Toney touchdown.
The risk for Notre Dame backers is a close game. Miami just won a one-score thriller, and a late field goal either way could decide the cover. Even so, Notre Dame’s second-half defense and balanced attack give it the better path to winning by six or more at home.
