Bet365 gained Iowa sports betting access through a signed agreement in 2021 with the Casino Queen Marquette to serve as the casinos second online sports betting skin. The casino also offers online sports betting through its own sports betting app, Q Sportsbook.

The sports betting operator is now live in five states.

Bet365 Iowa Live After Delayed Launch

The operator initially planned to launch its online sportsbook in the Hawkeye State in May, but had to delay plans, as well as its launch in Louisiana during the same month. Bet365 is now live in five states, including the following:

  • New Jersey
  • Ohio
  • Colorado
  • West Virginia
  • Iowa

Bet365 also had plans for sports betting in Massachusetts, but pulled its license request in January before sports betting launched in the Commonwealth. The operator had submitted a license application to the state gaming gaming for a “tethered” online sports betting license in partnership with the Raynham Park simulcasting facility.

The sports betting giant gave no comment as to the reason of the withdrawal at the time.

Iowa Sports Betting Details

Iowa legalized retail and online sports betting in 2019 and currently offers one of the lowest sports betting tax rates in the country. Sports betting operators are taxed at just a rate of 6.75%.

Sports betting is regulated by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission and each license is allowed to offer sports betting through two skins. License fees are comparably low to other states as well, with operators acquiring licenses for just $45,000 and renewing for $10,000.

Iowa sports betting came under national scrutiny in May when the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission opened an investigation into the University of Iowa baseball team in regards to the suspension of several athletes that had allegedly engaged in sports betting activities.

Many sportsbooks across the country discontinued or disallowed bets on the University of Iowa baseball team when details of the investigation emerged to the public.

The Iowa investigation came just days after Brad Bohannon, former University of Alabama baseball coach, was fired from the program after he was connected with suspicious sports betting activity in Ohio.
