The broader field of Olympic warriors continues to whittle down as we encroach closer to the men’s lightweight finals.

This 63 KG collision is a well-matched affair despite the lopsided line.

Both men have a fair bit of competitive familiarity with some of the elites internationally in their given weight category.

Keyshawn Davis’ Olympic Path

Keyshawn Davis is among the professional boxers competing in the Olympics and vies for amateur accomplishment in the first year the Games has allowed this.

He debuted as a pro earlier this calendar year and presently has a 3-0 professional record with a pair of stoppages.

On the amateur side, Davis has garnered silver medals at Pan American Games and World Championships in the past. Both of those accomplishments transpired in 2019 and now that we’re in 2021, Keyshawn Davis aims to make it for a third time and vault to that top spot on the podium.

Davis has already become the first American lightweight to medal in Boxing since 1996.

A man who was a late addition to the team has since emerged as one of the likelier candidates to win gold as per pundits of the sweet science.

Keyshawn Davis is but a pair of fights away from securing boxing gold for the US, a feat not done since 2004 with Andre Ward, and Hovhannes Bachkov is the next obstacle obfuscating that picturesque outcome.

Hovhannes Bachkov Path to the Semifinals

Hovhannes Bachkov also has professional boxing experience and is presently 2-0 professionally; garnering his first KO as a pro in April.

The decorated European amateur boxing champion is also signed with MTK Global for his pro outings. There is a bit of a redemptive component in these Games for Bachkov, who represented Armenia in the 2016 Olympics but was ousted early on from the pugilistic proceedings.

This is not the first time that these two warriors will be testing skills with one another under Queensberry Rules. Davis emerged victorious via majority decision when he fought Bachkov in September 2019.

I feel like Davis has impressed the most through his run to the semi-finals.

Beating top-seeded pugilists like reigning silver medalist Oumiha and Mamedov (who was the last to defeat Bachkov) leads me to believe this.

There will be a level of parity in this rematch that belies the oddsmakers’ perception, but I still favor the former over the latter more in Davis vs Bachkov.

Ultimately, I foresee Davis going 2-0 in his series with Bachkov. I think both have grown since the first bout, and this will be a kinetic chess match but one where Keyshawn Davis largely leads the dance.

Pick: Keyshawn Davis (-350)
