Paul vs Diaz Betting Analysis

The mixed martial arts world in early 2023 had some ripple effects sent through it with a curious debutant signing.

Controversial YouTuber/ rising Boxer Jake Paul announced that he has signed with PFL MMA and intends to compete in the brand new super fight division for Professional Fighters League.

With the signing, Paul called out the former WEC and UFC lightweight title challenger to a par of prizefights in both MMA and in Boxing.

Diaz has 34 mixed martial arts bouts to his credit and became a top ten ranked contender in multiple weight divisions over a fifteen-plus year tenure with the UFC. Now that the Stockton superstar is a free agent, rumors surrounding a Paul fight have mounted.

I think Diaz finishes Paul inside the distance and likely does so by way of submission.

Pick: Nate Diaz (-950)

Paul vs Diaz Props  – Boxing Bout

Fighter Odds
Jake Paul -250
Nate Diaz +170

Odds Favor Disney star over Ultimate Fighter winner

‘The Problem Child’ is presently 6-0 in Boxing with four stoppage victories and Paul is coming off of a unanimous decision win over Anderson Silva. Paul’s last four fights have been against UFC veterans and he is again eyeing a former UFC combatant in Diaz.

Conversely, the boxing-savvy MMA fighter has never had a professional gloved boxing bout under Queensberry Rules.

Paul has a tremendous size advantage over Diaz who has fought as high as 177 pounds in MMA while the social media influencer walks around at over 200 pounds.

While I don’t know if Paul would KO or TKO Diaz, it would be hard to see a scenario where the UFC stalwart beats the combat sports disruptor on the judges’ scorecards.

Pick: Jake Paul (-250)

Paul vs Diaz Odds – Do they fight in Boxing or MMA this year?

Outcome Odds
Yes +200
No -300

Will Paul vs Diaz Happen in 2023?

While I wouldn’t necessarily be super surprised if this was booked, I also would not go out of my way to bet on it. Diaz has so many unique options to him at this point and a common thread among Paul’s opponents is that fighting him represents one of their last big paycheques on the way toward retiring.

Recently on Twitter, Diaz teased a possible interest in competing for Rizin which has been becoming a powerhouse martial arts promotion over the last few years.

With Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather signed to the Japanese promotion for exhibition bouts, many pundits and fans alike are hearing rumblings of both of those sweet science legends clashing with Diaz.

Also, there’s the chance for him to also negotiate a one-fight UFC deal for a record-breaking trilogy bout with Conor McGregor who is speculated t return o competition this year.

Ultimately, I think Paul versus Diaz may very well happen someday but just not within this calendar year.

Pick: No (-300)
