  • Barstool president Dave Portnoy renewed his ongoing feud with the NFL at Super Bowl Media Day
  • Banned from all NFL events since 2015, Portnoy and PFTCommenter were arrested after sneaking into the event
  • Oddsmakers have posted a trio of props on Portnoy and his team getting apprehended at Super Bowl 53

The NFL and Barstool Sports have been at odds since 2015, when Barstool president Dave Portnoy and three of his employees were arrested for trespassing at NFL headquarters. The quartet handcuffed themselves in the lobby of NFL HQ in protest of Tom Brady’s four-game DeflateGate suspension.

Portnoy and Barstool, generally, have been banned from all NFL events ever since.

So when Portnoy and Barstool writer PFTCommenter snuck into Super Bowl Media Day, semi-disguised, it wasn’t too surprising how things ended.

Portnoy has been informed that he will be arrested if he attends the Super Bowl, itself.

Capitalizing on the trending topic, online sportsbooks have created props on whether “El Presidente” will be apprehended at Super Bowl 53 and whether he’ll crash Super Bowl Media Day 2020. They’ve also made a more inclusive prop on which Barstool employee will be arrested next.

I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on this, but getting +155 (39.2% implied probability) on Portnoy being apprehended at the Super Bowl seems like reasonable value. Here’s my syllogism.

(1) The NFL has said he’ll be arrested if he attends the Super Bowl.

(2) Portnoy has said he’s going to attend the Super Bowl.

He escaped with a criminal trespass warning [at Media Day], and was told by authorities he’d be arrested if he attempted to enter Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of Sunday’s Patriots-Rams showdown.

But Portnoy, an unabashed Patriots fan, told the Boston Herald: “There’s no chance I’m missing the game.” — Lisa Kashinsky, Boston Herald

(3) He probably won’t be too hard to recognize, given his “disguise” at Media Day.

Ergo, there’s a pretty good chance Portnoy gets the same treatment as he did at Media Day.

If you are sick of watching the Patriots in the Super Bowl and need a little side action to keep you entertained, I can think of worse bets to make.
