No. 5 Texas (26-8, 12-6 Big 12) is a 13.5-point favorite over Colgate in a first-round game in the Midwest Regional of the NCAA Tournament at 7:15 pm ET Thursday on TBS in Des Moines, Iowa. The Longhorns won the Big 12 Tournament.
Colgate (26-8, 17-1 Patriot) have won nine games in a row since a 61-60 loss to American on Feb. 4. The Raiders have reached the NCAA Tournament for three straight seasons, four considering the 2020 event was cancelled.

Texas Enters on a Roll
The Longhorns finished the regular season with a strong stretch that make them look an awful lot like a contender in the odds to win March Madness. They beat Big 12 Tournament top seed Kansas twice in eight days, the first in Austin to clinch a share of the regular-season title and the second in Kansas City (Kansas’ home away from home) in the Big 12 tournament finals.
Neither was close — 75-59 at home and 76-56 in KC. Also included in that final run was a victory over NCAA Midwest No. 6 seed TCU.

The Longhorns are so deep and talented that they won their three Big 12 Tournament games by a combined 40 points without 6’6″ starting forward Timmy Allen (10.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists), who was out with a lower right leg injury suffered in the regular-season finale against Kansas. Texas did not have to look far for a replacement– Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year 6’4″ Sir’Jabari Rice (12.6 points, 51 threes) stepped in with 37 points and 16 rebounds. Rice and Xavier’s Souly Boom, who played at New Mexico State last season, are two of the most impactful portal transfers this year. Harris will be “full tilt” for the Colgate game, interim coach Rodney Terry said.
All-Big 12 guard 6’4″ Marcus Carr (15.9 points, 4.1 assists) enters in a 22-of-75 shooting slump, but athletic 6’9″ forward Dylan Disu is at the top of his game after being named the MOP of the Big 12 Tournament. Disu, Harris and forward Christian Bishop contest everything inside, and opponents are shooting just 42 percent from the field. The Longhorns force 16.2 turnovers per game, 16th most in Division I.
Colgate Lights It Up
Patriot League Coach of the Year Matt Langel Colgate has designed one of the most productive offenses in Division I around conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year guard Tucker Richardson. The Raiders are second in Division I in field goal percentage (51.4) and effective field goal percentage (58.3), first in three-point field goal percentage (40.8) and third in assists (18.6 per game). They average 78.6 points per game.
Tucker Richardson had 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists in Colgate's Patriot League Championship last night.

The 6’5″ Richardson, one of four senior starters, leads the Raiders in points (13.9 per game) and assists (5.8) and is second in rebounds (5.2). He has a host of quality options. Big man 6’10” Keenan Records (13.0 points, 6.0 rebounds) leads in rebounding, and freshman guard 6′ Braeden Smith (11.8 points, 4.5 assists) has been a been a find at point. Richardson had a triple-double in the 79-61 victory over Lafayette in the league tournament finals, and Records rolled to the hoop for 21 points.
