Meanwhile, the #10-ranked Wildcats are treading water. Villanova is 5-3 over the past eight games.

Nonetheless, it is Nova that is being set as 4-point road favorites as the Wildcats make the journey to Providence. The Friars are 7-0 both straight up and ATS this season when the betting underdog.

Out Of The Fire, Into The Friars’ Den

In the KenPom.com advanced metrics, the Wildcats check in at #9 nationally at +25.37. Villanova’s adjusted offensive efficiency is #6 in the country at 118.2 points per 100 possessions

Nova’s adjusted defensive efficiency rating is 92.8 points per 100 possessions, which is ranking #25 in the nation.

Rank ‘Em Up

Providence is a perfect 4-0 this season when facing ranked teams. The Friars show wins over #15 Seton Hall (70-65), #20 UConn (57-53), #21 Xavier (65-62) and #22 Marquette (65-63).

By contrast, Villanova is 1-3 SU against ranked schools. The Wildcats beat #16 Tennessee (71-53). They lost to #13 UCLA (86-77), #5 Purdue (80-74) and #7 Baylor (57-36).

The Friars show a NCAA NET Ranking of 29. That includes a 5-1 SU record when opposing Quad 1 teams. Villanova, though is #6 in the NET rankings. The Wildcats are 5-6 SU against Quadrant 1 schools.

Friars Are Boiling Hot

Providence is 21-2 for the first time since the 1972-73 season. That was also the last time the Friars were 22-2. They’ve won 16 of the last 17 games.

For the first time, Providence has won eight successive Big East games. The last time the school won nine games in a row overall was in 1988-89. They are 11-1 in Big East play for the first time ever. Friars junior guard Jared Bynum has won the past two Big East player-of-the-week awards.

It’s the first time since the 2017-18 season that Providence has reached the 20-win plateau in a season. As well, it’s the first time the Friars were ranked among the NCAA top-25 since 2016.

Wildcats vs Friars Betting Trends

Providence graduate student guard Al Durham ranks second in the NCAA in free-throws made (141) and ninth in attempts (167). Durham leads the Big East in both of those categories, as well as in minutes played per game (35.6).

Villanova senior guard Colin Gillespie (.914) leads the team and the Big East in free-throw percentage.

The total has gone under in each of the past six times Villanova played at Providence. The Wildcats are 5-2 ATS in the past seven games against the Friars.

Providence vs Villanova Prediction

The Friars are a perfect 14-0 SU at home this season.  However, Providence is just 2-4 ATS in the school’s last six home games.

These two teams split the season series in each of the past two seasons. Last season, each team won on their home floor.

Villanova is 11-8 ATS as a favorite of four or more points. But the Pennsylvania betting public should beware: Providence is 3-0 ATS as an underdog of four or more points.

Pick: Providence Friars +4 (-110)
