  • My college football DFS picks cover Saturday’s 12-game main slate
  • Value receivers leave room for two quarterbacks under the salary cap

Saturday’s college football DFS main slate brings 12 games and a $50,000 salary cap to work with. My Week 5 lineup targets affordable receivers with established roles, leaving room to spend on two quarterbacks when the action starts at noon ET on Oct. 3.

I’m weighing workload, matchup and salary together. A big name can carry a lineup, but I also want the cheaper spots earning catches and carries. If you’re comparing DFS apps, these selections and salaries are specifically for DraftKings Classic.

Below is my full CFB DFS Week 5 lineup, followed by the value and matchup behind each of the eight picks.

Week 5 College Football DFS Lineup: Saturday Main Slate

PositionPlayerTeamSalary
QBColton JosephWisconsin$7,500
RBJamal RobertsMissouri$7,300
RBOusmane KromahFlorida State$5,900
WRTyrell HenryWisconsin$4,900
WRAmare ThomasHouston$6,600
WRRico Flores Jr.Virginia$4,500
FLEXPatrick OvermyerHouston$4,300
S-FLEXMichael Hawkins Jr.West Virginia$8,500
Total$49,500

That leaves $500 under the $50,000 cap. Salaries are from the Oct. 3 main-slate player pool as of Oct. 2, so double-check pricing and availability before you enter anything on DraftKings. Overmyer is a tight end who carries receiver eligibility, which is why he fits the flex.

CFB DFS Picks: Colton Joseph ($7,500)

Colton Joseph has 987 passing yards and seven touchdowns through four games, plus 121 yards and two scores on the ground. He threw for 362 yards against Eastern Michigan, the seventh-highest total by a Badgers quarterback in school history.

Joseph threw three interceptions at Penn State before finding Jacob Harris for the winning 72-yard touchdown. That volatility comes with the price, but his rushing production adds another route to points. At $7,500 against 2-2 Michigan State, he also leaves room for his leading receiver.

CFB DFS Picks: Jamal Roberts ($7,300)

Jamal Roberts has carried 89 times for 395 yards and three touchdowns in four games. PFF credits him with 316 yards after contact, sixth-most among FBS backs and second in the SEC, and his 15 forced missed tackles rank near the top of the league.

That’s 22.3 carries per game, the workload I want from this salary slot. Roberts is $2,500 cheaper than Jadan Baugh, which helps fill out the receiving spots. Florida’s offense could force Missouri to throw more, though, and Roberts has only five catches.

CFB DFS Picks: Ousmane Kromah ($5,900)

Ousmane Kromah has 397 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 64 carries, good for 6.2 per carry and 99.3 per game. He ran 11 times for 86 yards and two scores against Central Arkansas last week.

Virginia has been stingy on the ground overall, allowing 116.75 rushing yards per game, but West Virginia hung 247 and three rushing touchdowns on them in Charlotte. Kromah has scored in all four games, giving this midpriced roster spot a steady role near the goal line.

CFB DFS Picks: Tyrell Henry ($4,900)

Tyrell Henry has 24 catches for 307 yards and a touchdown, and his 14-catch afternoon against Eastern Michigan on 17 targets set a Wisconsin single-game receptions record. Penn State held him to two grabs for 14 yards last week.

I’ll take that swing at under $5,000. Henry leads Wisconsin in catches and receiving yards, and pairing him with Joseph means one touchdown pass between them scores for two lineup spots. The quiet Penn State game is a reminder that the workload can fluctuate.

CFB DFS Picks: Amare Thomas ($6,600)

Amare Thomas has caught a touchdown in nine straight games, the longest active streak in the FBS. He’s at 23 receptions for 287 yards and four scores, including an eight-catch, 133-yard opener against Oregon State.

Houston is 3-1, ranked 20th and favored at home against UCF per the college football odds. Thomas hasn’t topped 75 yards since that first week, but the end zone work keeps showing up.

CFB DFS Picks: Rico Flores Jr. ($4,500)

Rico Flores Jr. caught nine passes for 113 yards and a touchdown against Delaware last week. He missed Virginia’s first two games through injury, then made his debut against West Virginia. That breakout gives me a better reason to spend $4,500 than relying on an early-season reception total.

Virginia heads to Florida State with Beau Pribula completing 66 of 86 passes and already at 11 touchdown throws. Flores only has two games in this offense, so I’m not treating nine catches as his weekly baseline. But his growing involvement gives this inexpensive receiving spot room to outperform its salary.

CFB DFS Picks: Patrick Overmyer ($4,300)

Patrick Overmyer is the cheapest spot in the lineup and he’s been one of the more productive tight ends in the country. The UTSA transfer has 19 catches and two touchdowns through four games.

He posted 84 receiving yards in his Houston debut and averages nearly five catches per game. Houston leads the nation with a 71.1% third-down conversion rate, helping sustain opportunities. At $4,300, I can pair that steady involvement with Thomas’s touchdown upside against UCF.

CFB DFS Picks: Michael Hawkins Jr. ($8,500)

Michael Hawkins Jr. is the most expensive player here, and the rushing production is why. He’s run for 425 yards and a team-high nine touchdowns on 72 carries while completing 60% of his throws for 609 yards, five scores and one pick.

West Virginia ranks fourth nationally at 294.8 rushing yards per game. The passing has been uneven, including 10 completions on a season-high 22 attempts in last week’s home loss to Oklahoma State, but his 18 rushing attempts per game provide opportunities beyond the passing stats. I’m paying for that workload, without assuming the nine-touchdown pace continues.
