The Oklahoma State Cowboys return to Boone Pickens Stadium for their 105th Homecoming game, looking to bounce back against a spiraling Colorado Buffaloes squad. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 24, on FS1. Oklahoma State sits at 4-2 overall, 2-1 in Big 12 play and a perfect 3-0 at home.
Colorado is trying to stop the bleeding. Mired in a four-game losing streak, the Buffaloes have tumbled to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play. With 10 turnovers across their last four games, the road underdogs face an uphill battle against a high-octane offense.
I am targeting the spread and the total to capitalize on the stark difference in team trajectory. Here is how these contrasting styles should clash in Stillwater.
Colorado vs Oklahoma State Prediction
Prediction: Oklahoma State wins by more than two touchdowns, and the game clears 56.5 points.
My Colorado vs Oklahoma State prediction comes down to one question: can the Buffaloes keep pace with an offense scoring 37.2 points per game? I do not think they can. Colorado has scored 13 or fewer points in three of four games while Oklahoma State has scored at least 32 in five straight games.
Colorado vs Oklahoma State Picks
Colorado vs Oklahoma State Pick #1: Oklahoma State -13.5
- Pick: Oklahoma State -13.5 (-108 at BetMGM)
I am backing Oklahoma State to cover this 13.5-point spread. The Cowboys have outscored opponents 140-59 in Stillwater this season. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker runs an air raid offense that averages 329.5 passing yards per game. The potential first-round draft pick is on pace for around 4,000 yards and 30 passing touchdowns.
Mestemaker threw for 365 yards and three touchdowns in his last outing and has five games this season with 300-plus passing yards and multiple touchdown passes. He leads the Big 12 in both yards and yards per game.
Colorado does not have the horses to match that pace. The Buffaloes average 19.5 points per game and have converted just 12 of 17 red-zone trips (70.6%). For bettors tracking how both sides have fared against the number, our NCAAF ATS Records & Trends page has the full picture.
Colorado vs Oklahoma State Pick #2: Over 56.5
- Pick: Over 56.5 Alternate Total (-111 at BetMGM)
BetMGM’s main Colorado vs Oklahoma State total is 55.5, but my pick is the Over 56.5 alternate total at -111. Even with the extra point, I expect this game to clear the number.
Colorado’s defense has held five of six opponents under 30 points, but it has not faced a passing attack like this one. The Buffaloes allow 226 passing yards per game, giving the Cowboys a clear runway to score in bunches. Oklahoma State games are averaging 60.9 combined points this season.
I expect a result to the tune of Oklahoma State 37, Colorado 20, or Oklahoma State 42, Colorado 24 to secure the spread and the over.
Colorado vs Oklahoma State Key Player Matchups
Isaac Wilson has taken the reins under center for Colorado, averaging 273 passing yards and 41.5 rushing yards per game in two starts. In last week’s 27-24 loss to No. 11 Utah, he went 18-of-30 for 256 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, adding 41 rushing yards.
Wilson leans on wideout Joseph Williams, who has 508 receiving yards and five touchdowns. JaQuail Smith leads the backfield with 259 rushing yards but no rushing touchdowns, though he found the end zone on a 68-yard catch against Utah.
For Oklahoma State, Justin Bowick has 29 receptions, 22 of them for first downs, plus six receiving touchdowns. Wyatt Young leads the team with 561 receiving yards. Colorado’s front is stout against the run, allowing 131.2 rushing yards per game and three rushing touchdowns on 221 attempts. Its vulnerability through the air is the bigger problem in this Colorado vs Oklahoma State matchup.
Colorado vs Oklahoma State Team Stats
Oklahoma State holds a 17.7-point scoring edge and out-gains Colorado by 123.5 total yards per game. The biggest gap is through the air, where the Cowboys average 75.7 more passing yards per game. If Wilson turns the ball over early, Oklahoma State has the firepower to make Colorado pay.
Colorado vs Oklahoma State Latest Odds
Odds verified at BetMGM on October 23 at 10:40 PM ET.
BetMGM lists Oklahoma State as a 13.5-point home favorite, and the steep -556 moneyline makes the spread the more practical way to back the Cowboys. The main total sits at 55.5 with extra juice on the Over, while my Over 56.5 pick comes from the alternate total menu at -111.
