Tommy Castellanos Passing Yards

Tommy’s been a revelation since transferring in, throwing for 594 yards and three touchdowns with a 91.6 QBR. He’s cleared 200 yards twice already, including in last week’s win, where he attempted just 13 passes.

Castellanos is averaging an insane 15.6 yards per completion, and while it’s unrealistic that it continues, he would need to hit just 12 passes tonight to smash the over 172.5 passing yards.

While Virginia’s defense has played well this season, they’ve allowed opponents to complete 63% of passes for 7.3 yards per pass. Stanford quarterback Ben Gulbranson threw for 286 yards and two touchdowns last week. Plus, Castellanos crossed this line in both meetings with UVA while quarterbacking Boston College earlier in his career, when he was far less developed as a passer.

Castellanos left last week’s contest after getting rolled up on, but he has indicated he’s a full go for Virginia tonight. This line is simply too low, with books shading in that direction because of the leg tweak last week. I fully expect Castellanos to eat on bootlegs and play actions in a game where Florida State should score a ton of points.

Sam Leavitt Passer Touchdowns

Veteran Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt has been electric this season, throwing for 748 yards with six touchdowns and another four scores on the ground. He’s also converted an insane 12% of his throws for touchdowns against defenses outside of the top-50 allowed in EPA per dropback. TCU’s leaky defense certainly falls into category, ranking 113th in EPA per pass.

Leavitt’s thrown for multiple touchdowns in eight of his last 12 starts, including six with more than two scores, and he hasn’t gone two straight games without popping off for multiple scores since September of last season.

Leavitt threw for only one score in a 27-24 win over Baylor last Saturday. He’ll thrive against a TCU secondary that allowed two touchdown strikes from Abilene Christian pivot Stone Earle two weeks ago, and three from SMU signal-caller Kevin Jennings last week.

With star receiver Jordan Tyson (31 catches, five touchdowns already) as his alpha, Leavitt is in a perfect spot to bounce back against TCU on Friday night.
