  • Jeremiah Smith scored the winning touchdown at Indiana and his price got longer anyway
  • Darian Mensah and Trinidad Chambliss both cut their numbers roughly in half

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith scored the touchdown that won the biggest game of the weekend. His 2026 Heisman Trophy price got longer anyway.

He went from about -222 to about -145 in seven days. Bettors who wanted him last Sunday and passed just got a discount.

Here’s where the Heisman odds stand after the contenders played, and why I’m still on Smith at the better number.

Updated Heisman Odds After Week 7

Player (Team)Heisman Odds
Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State)-145
Darian Mensah (Miami)+400
Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss)+700
CJ Carr (Notre Dame)+1000
Jesse Legree (Oregon State)+1600
Drew Mestemaker (Oklahoma State)+2000
Bear Bachmeier (BYU)+4000
Malachi Toney (Miami)+5000
Gunner Stockton (Georgia)+6600
Julian Sayin (Ohio State)+8000
Keelon Russell (Alabama)+8000
Kamario Taylor (Mississippi State)+8000

Last week Smith implied roughly a 69% chance at -222. At -145 that drops to around 59% before the book’s margin, which is a meaningfully cheaper ticket on the same player.

Smith’s closest challengers gained ground. Mensah went +1100 to +400, Chambliss +1500 to +700, and Carr held at +1000 despite Notre Dame taking its first loss.

Smith Gets Cheaper in the Heisman Odds

I expected another big afternoon at Indiana could shorten Smith’s price. Instead, he delivered the winning touchdown and got cheaper.

Four catches for 68 yards sounds quiet until you see which one mattered. Ohio State went for it on fourth-and-1 with 12:46 left, Smith took it 38 yards for a 19-7 lead, and that was the winning margin in a 19-15 road win over No. 5 Indiana.

It was his 39th career receiving touchdown, tying Braylon Edwards for the Big Ten record. He’s also the second receiver in conference history with three 1,000-yard seasons.

The new uncertainty is at quarterback. Ryan Day said Julian Sayin is probably out several weeks with a throwing arm injury, and Sayin himself went +3500 to +8000. Ohio State is off October 24 before visiting USC on the 31st, which gives a backup two weeks to get comfortable throwing to Smith.

Mensah +400 and Chambliss +700 Close the Gap

Mensah is back where he sat two weeks ago. He was +400 then, drifted to +1100 during Miami’s bye, and now returns to +400 after going 23-of-34 for 326 yards and three scores in a 43-35 double-overtime win over Florida State.

The +1100 value is gone; +400 is a much steeper price on 6-0 Miami, which hosts Pitt next. Malachi Toney held at +5000 after 11 catches for 154 yards, the winning three-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion pass to Cooper Barkate.

Chambliss cut from +1500 to +700 on four total touchdowns in a 31-3 win over No. 13 Missouri. The +1500 is gone, and +700 pays less than half as much profit. Ole Miss visits Texas next, giving Chambliss another chance to strengthen his case.

Carr Holds at +1000; Other Heisman Odds Drift

Carr is the week’s oddity. Notre Dame lost 28-24 at BYU and he finished at 55% completions with no touchdown passes, yet his Heisman odds held at +1000. The same price now buys a 6-1 team rather than an unbeaten one.

Bear Bachmeier is on the board at +4000 after beating them with a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game. No BYU player had done that since Steve Young in the 1983 Holiday Bowl, and the unbeaten Cougars head to UCF next.

Several other contenders became much longer prices. Stockton went +1500 to +6600, Russell +1500 to +8000, Taylor +4000 to +8000, and Hoover slid +5000 to +12500 after Indiana’s 19-15 loss. Arch Manning is out at +12500 from +4000.

My Heisman Pick After Week 7

Kalshi
Jeremiah Smith
50%

Kalshi has Smith YES shares at 50 cents, down from 59 last Sunday, and a winning share pays a dollar. That’s even money before fees against BetMGM’s -145, so Kalshi is clearly the better of the two prices.

I’m staying with the best player in college football. Smith tied a Big Ten record and delivered against a top-five team. I’d rather own that at 50 cents than at 59.

If you want alternatives, Chambliss at +700, Mensah at +400 and Bachmeier at +4000 are all available at BetMGM.

First-time traders can also check the Kalshi promo code before taking that contract.
