No. 10 Utah puts its perfect 6-0 record on the line Saturday when No. 14 Houston visits Rice-Eccles Stadium. Kickoff is set for 10:15 p.m. ET (7:15 p.m. PT) on ESPN, and this Big 12 battle carries real postseason weight.
Houston is 6-1 and 3-1 in conference play after beating Oklahoma State, a game where Conner Weigman threw for 343 yards and five touchdowns. Utah is 3-0 in the Big 12, and both offenses are scoring about 40 points per game.
Third-down efficiency and both defensive fronts shape my Houston vs Utah prediction. Below I break down the betting line and explain the matchup behind my CFB best bet.
Houston vs Utah Prediction
- Houston +7.5 (56¢ on Kalshi)
My Houston vs Utah prediction starts with how closely these offenses match up. Utah averages 40.2 points and 486.5 total yards per game, while Houston checks in at 39.3 points and 485.1 yards.
The gap shows up on third down. Houston converts 61.4% of its third-down tries (54 of 88), compared to 53.2% for Utah. Weigman drives that efficiency, completing 134 of 198 passes for 1,771 yards with 20 touchdowns and just two interceptions.
Sustained drives shorten the game and keep Devon Dampier on the sideline. Utah’s quarterback has 1,412 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and four interceptions in six games, so limiting his possessions matters for a road underdog.
Utah does own a red-zone edge, scoring on 90.6% of trips (29 of 32) compared to Houston’s 84.6% (33 of 39). That gap is real but modest. Laying more than a touchdown against an offense that protects the ball and moves the chains this well is too steep for me.
Houston vs Utah Over/Under Prediction
- Under 57.5 points (50¢ on Kalshi)
My Houston vs Utah over/under prediction is Under 57.5. Houston allows just 82.6 rushing yards per game, and Utah gives up 88.7. Those defensive fronts can take away easy yards and force both offenses to build scoring drives instead of relying on explosive runs.
Utah also holds opponents to 14.8 points per game. I expect Houston’s third-down efficiency to keep this competitive while extending possessions and limiting the number of drives. My score prediction is Utah 27, Houston 24: the Cougars cover the spread and the 51-point total stays Under.

Houston vs Utah Betting Line
The Houston vs Utah betting line offers a choice around seven, the most relevant margin for this pick.

Houston +7.5 at 56¢ works out to about a 56% implied probability before fees, or roughly -127 in sportsbook terms. The contract pays $1 if Houston wins outright or loses by seven or fewer.
The difference between 48¢ at +6.5 and 56¢ at +7.5 reflects the value of covering a seven-point Utah win. That extra point is worth paying for here. See the current welcome offer on our Kalshi promo code page.
Houston vs Utah CFB Best Bets
The Houston vs Utah matchup stats explain why taking the points is my CFB best bet.
Utah leans on running back Wayshawn Parker, who has 597 yards and seven touchdowns on 89 carries. He also has 19 catches for 201 yards and four scores, making him a versatile scoring threat.
That puts the spotlight on a Houston run defense allowing just 82.6 rushing yards per game. If the Cougars win early downs, Utah gets pushed into passing situations it would rather avoid.
The risk for Houston is its pass defense, which gives up 265 yards per game. Dampier and Braden Pegan (422 yards, six receiving touchdowns) will test that secondary, and Utah’s defense is the better unit overall at 14.8 points allowed.
Houston has the weapons to keep pace. Patrick Overmyer has 432 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, Amare Thomas adds 487 yards and six scores, and Makhi Hughes has rushed for 464 yards in a ground game averaging 220.3 yards per game.
That balance is why I’m taking the points in this spot. A seven-point Utah win still cashes the hook, and Houston’s third-down edge gives it a real path to stay close late.
