Minnesota’s offense looks different from the run-heavy teams most fans associate with P.J. Fleck. That change gets a serious road test tonight against an unbeaten Washington team that has protected its home field well under Jedd Fisch.

The Golden Gophers are 2-1, while the Huskies enter 3-0. Kickoff at Husky Stadium is 11 p.m. ET, or 8 p.m. locally, with FOX broadcasting the game.

My Minnesota vs Washington prediction focuses on the quarterbacks and how each offense stays ahead of the chains. Below you’ll find the latest spread, my picks, and the numbers behind Minnesota’s changing approach.

Minnesota vs Washington Prediction & Picks

  • Spread pick: Washington -10 (-111 at BetMGM)
  • Total pick: Over 45.5 (-111 at BetMGM)

I’m laying the points with Washington. The Huskies are 14-2 at home since joining the Big Ten in 2024, including 12-0 against unranked visitors. Those are outright records, not cover rates, but they establish how difficult this trip has been for opposing teams. Make sure you scan the best college football betting apps to find the most favorable odds.

Minnesota has lost five straight road games, with its last road victory coming at Wisconsin in November 2024. That does not make another loss inevitable. It does make me want a strong matchup reason to back the Gophers here, and I see more advantages on Washington’s side.

Demond Williams Jr. gives the Huskies two ways to move the chains. He leads the team with 150 rushing yards, and Washington is averaging 8.83 yards on first-down plays through three games. That early-down success makes it harder for a defense to dictate the next snap.

The Huskies also have seven takeaways against one giveaway. I would not assume that plus-six turnover margin continues at the same pace, but their ability to create extra possessions raises the pressure on Minnesota. A couple of wasted drives could leave the Gophers chasing a double-digit deficit.

For the total, I’m taking Over 45.5. Minnesota is throwing far more often than its old reputation suggests, with Drake Lindsey averaging 34.3 attempts per game. Williams averages 36.3, so neither offense is built exclusively around grinding out short runs.

Passing volume alone does not guarantee points. What interests me is Lindsey’s 19-for-26 passing on third and fourth downs, a 73.1% completion rate in that small sample. If Minnesota sustains a few drives and contributes touchdowns, Washington will not need to carry the Over on its own.

Minnesota’s Offensive Shift

MeasureMinnesota
Rush-play share, 2017–2362.3%
Rush-play share, 202446.3%
Rush-play share, 202545.4%
Rush-play share, 2026 through Week 341.9%
Red-zone pass-play share, 2026 through Week 365.2%

This is not a one-week experiment. Minnesota has steadily moved away from its old run-first approach, and the passing emphasis becomes even stronger near the goal line. Washington will need to defend the full field rather than simply crowd the line of scrimmage.

The Gophers still average 33:23 of possession, so more passing has not meant abandoning ball control. That is the clearest threat to my Washington pick: Minnesota could keep the game close by sustaining drives and limiting the Huskies’ opportunities. I’m betting Washington’s first-down efficiency and quarterback mobility ultimately create more scoring chances.

The college football odds make Washington a double-digit favorite. A 10-point Huskies win pushes the spread, while 11 or more covers. I prefer laying the points to paying -385 on an outright win, but I would reassess if the spread climbs beyond this number.
