  • Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert is staying in school.
  • That makes Nick Bosa an even heavier favorite to go #1 in the NFL Draft.
  • Who else could go #1?

The 2019 NFL Draft is fast approaching, and the odds sheet is suggesting that the first pick is already fairly certain. Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa is the odds-on favorite to go first overall, and nobody else is particularly close.

2019 NFL Draft Odds

Player Odds
Nick Bosa (Ohio State, DE) -300
Josh Allen (Kentucky, LB) +350
Ed Oliver (Houston, DL) +400
Dwayne Haskins (Ohio State, QB) +700

In previous weeks, we saw Bosa at +150 to go first overall, but Herbert’s withdrawal seems to have pushed Bosa over the top.

For those of you wondering if “Josh Allen” is a typo: no, there is another Josh Allen in this year’s draft. This one’s a linebacker, and he’s probably a better pick than what the Bills got in 2018.

Has Nick Bosa Locked Up #1?

Maybe. The Ohio State defensive end is perhaps the most-known quantity in the draft and has the highest floor. Scouts love what they see, and it’s hard for GM’s to pass on a hard-hitter who’s equally good at setting the edge against the run and rushing the passer. It also helps that his older brother, Joey Bosa, is one of the most valuable players in his draft class.

While it’s hard to project how anyone will do in the NFL, nobody can have more positive signs than Nick Bosa.

He is coming off a core injury that limited him to just three games in the 2018 season. That doesn’t help his draft case. If you’re arguing against Nick Bosa, that’s about all you can say.

Justin Herbert Stays at Oregon

Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert has decided that the 2018 season wasn’t the high note he wanted to leave Eugene on. He recently announced that he is returning for his senior season. That’s huge news for the Pac-12, as Oregon will be a contender with Herbert and would have been an unknown quantity without him; but it might be even bigger news for the NFL Draft.

Herbert was projected to be one of the first quarterbacks off the board in the 2019 draft, likely the best of a pretty thin crop of passers. That makes Dwayne Haskins the favorite to be the first QB taken, and might even have Kyler Murray rethinking his decision to play baseball.
