Washington hosts Washington State at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium in Seattle for a Week 1 Apple Cup, kicking off at 4:00 p.m. ET on September 6, 2026. Both rosters got a lot younger this offseason, but only one of them looks ready to put up points.

The Cougars lean on a deep receiver room led by seniors Tony Freeman and Daniel Blood, and they will test the Huskies on the perimeter. Washington answers with a veteran backfield of Trey Cooley and Jayden Limar running behind an experienced line.

The Huskies run a fast, high-volume offense that gives me plenty of reasons to back points in the Apple Cup. Last year, Washington averaged 34.1 points and 409.9 total yards per game. They also stayed on the field, converting 50.3% of their third downs, which helped them win the field-position battle and eat up snaps. Inside the 20, they were close to automatic at 92.6% red zone efficiency.

Washington State is far more up and down. The Cougars averaged 22.4 points and leaned hard on the pass, piling up 2,737 passing yards against just 1,674 rushing yards. When they needed to string drives together, they came up short, hitting a rough 38.1% on third down.

Worse, they gave the ball away. Washington State finished at a -10 turnover margin. Their front can get home, with 31.0 sacks last season, but a defense that keeps getting sent back out on short fields eventually breaks. That is how this one gets lopsided.

Even money on a three-touchdown cushion in a rivalry game is playable. The Cougars’ pass rush got home 31 times last year, and if they can muddy up a few series early, Washington’s margin tightens. This is a live number rather than a conviction play, so size it accordingly.

Washington Moneyline [93¢ on Kalshi]
