The Puppy Bowl is an annual event that airs on Animal Planet and Discovery channels on Super Bowl Sunday. It features adoptable puppies from shelters and rescues playing together on a miniature football field, complete with toys, tunnels, and even a water bowl camera.

The Puppy Bowl was first held in 2005 as counterprogramming to the Super Bowl halftime show. It has grown tremendously in popularity over the years, now drawing millions of viewers. The lighthearted event aims to raise awareness about pet adoption and showcase adorable puppies finding forever homes.

When Is the Puppy Bowl?

Puppy Bowl 2024 Picks & Predictions

Team Fluff comes into the game as defending champions, having won the Puppy Bowl the last two years. As a result, most sportsbooks have Team Fluf as slight favorites in 2024. However, Team Ruff has put together a strong roster this year and could pull off an upset victory.

A high-scoring, offensive shootout is expected. With adoptable puppies just playing for fun, total points scored could set a new Puppy Bowl scoring record, exceeding last year’s combined 170 points.

There is significant size disparity between the teams’ players. Team Ruff boasts 1.7-pound Sweetpea, the smallest puppy ever to compete. Meanwhile, Team Fluff counters with 72-pound Great Dane Levi, the largest puppy to play.

Special needs puppies are predicted to be fan favorites and impact players. Deaf puppies like Moosh and Xinia could show impressive speed, while two-legged puppy Mr. Bean figures to dart upfield quickly.

For Team Fluff, Patrick Mabones is one to watch for MVP consideration. The male Hound mix is described as an energetic athlete likely to put up points.

Finally, several puppies from Iowa animal shelters and rescues will compete, bringing some Midwest spirit and heart to this national event.

Puppy Bowl Picks:

  • Winner: Team Fluff (-150)
  • Total: Over 165.5 Points (+110)
  • MVP: Patrick Mabones (+500)
