When Stephen Colbert took over The Late Show at CBS, Jimmy Fallon ruled Late Night and Barack Obama ruled the free world. Oh, how times have changed. Fallon is now rapidly losing ground to Colbert in the battle for late night, and the free world has a new leader in Vladimir Putin.

Colbert won nine Emmys during his time at Comedy Central but was famously snubbed in his first year at The Late Show. This year, he’s hosting the awards event!

On September 17th at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Colbert will be the face of the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards. Nominations voting begins next Monday (June 12th) and we’ll find out the nominees a month later (July 13th). Once they are released, odds will be posted and bets placed on who the winners will be. Curious which sportsbooks offer non-sports, entertainment and political props?

We still have just over a month until nominations are released, so in the meantime, let’s take a look at the odds for Stephen Colbert.

Emmy Host Odds

O/U on viewership: 12.7 million

Last year, the Emmys sank to a low of just 11.3 million viewers. The show doesn’t pull in numbers like the Oscars and Golden Globes, but those are still some pretty dismal numbers.

Colbert and CBS will be looking to do a lot better than Jimmy Kimmel and ABC, and I think there’s a good chance they will. The Late Show has been killing it in the ratings, and CBS is finally pulling in better numbers than NBC’s The Tonight Show.

O/U on amount of times Colbert refers to Donald Trump: 5.5

Trump Jokes are Colbert’s bread and butter. His relentless mocking of the 45th president has made him the king of Late Night. Be ready for jokes about crowd sizes, hand sizes, and Russian spies.

O/U on award winners that refer to Donald Trump: 3.5

Award shows have become a lot more political in recent years, and recipients are much more willing to voice their opinion. It’s no secret that Hollywood is not a fan of Trump, so be prepared for some heavy criticism.

Odds Donald Trump tweets about the Emmys: 1/3

When someone hits Donald Trump, he oftentimes hits back. And his weapon of choice is the tweet. Three months is a lifetime in Trump years, so we don’t know what the issues of the day will be. We can’t even be sure he’ll be president. One thing we can count on is that he’ll be tweeting.

Odds a former Daily Show star makes an appearance: 1/1

John Stewart, Steve Carell, John Oliver, Samantha Bee, Trevor Noah, Larry Wilmore, Lewis Black — the list goes on!

There are quite a few names Colbert can call on if he wants to bring a friend on stage. Colbert and Stewart presented at the Emmys a decade ago, and it was a hit.
