DWG KIA Favored to Repeat
Ever since the group stage, DWG KIA has looked like the best team in the tournament. It wasn’t until the semifinals against T1 that DWG KIA finally lost their very first game of Worlds 2021. The reigning World Champions have been on a remarkable run. However, that run was nearly ended by their LCK rivals in T1. The semifinal between DWG KIA and T1 was one of the greatest matches in League of Legends history. The two teams showcased an incredibly high level of play but it was Khan, Canyon, ShowMaker, Ghost, and Beryl that moved on to the final.
DWG KIA and T1 looked like the two best teams at Worlds 2021. DWG KIA emerged as the stronger of the two and have constantly displayed a mastery of the meta and in-game decision making. Going into the final, DWG KIA doesn’t have a weakness. With Canyon roaming around the jungle, DWG KIA has thrived with their aggressive playstyle, and it should propel them to consecutive World Championships.
Last Five League of Legends World Champions
Year | Winner | Prize Money (USD) |
---|---|---|
2016 | SK Telecom T1 | $2,028,000 |
2017 | Samsung Galaxy | $1,723,722 |
2018 | Invictus Gaming | $2,418,750 |
2019 | FunPlus Phoenix | $834,375 |
2020 | DAMWON Gaming | $556,250 |
DWG KIA vs Edward Gaming Pick & Prediction
Although DWG KIA are viewed as the heavy favorites, Edward Gaming has fought their way into the finals. It wasn’t always pretty, but wins are wins, and EDG has qualified for their first ever Worlds finals. The top seed out of the LPL has shown vulnerability at every level of Worlds 2021. In the group stage, Edward Gaming struggled in the second week as they finished second in the group behind T1.
Royal Never Give Up then took Edward Gaming all the way to game five of the quarterfinals before EDG shut the door with a convincing final game.
Then in the semis, EDG faced another game five, and at one point trailed Gen.G 2-1 in the series. Once again, Edward Gaming stepped up in the deciding game. Although both semifinals ended up going the distance, the level of play between Gen.G and EDG was significantly messier.
Regardless of how both teams have looked up to this point, they’ve both displayed the ability to come up clutch when it truly matters. Something will have to give in the DWG KIA vs Edward Gaming final, and it’s hard to imagine that the reigning World Champions with two game losses all tournament will crumble to the pressure. ShowMaker has been dominant all tournament long, and the team has the additional motivation or trying to send ‘Khan’ out on top before he retires.
DWG KIA doesn’t present the best value in the LoL Worlds 2021 final odds, but they truly have been incredibly consistent all tournament long. Their lone blemish was being forced to game five against the second best team in the tournament. Edward Gaming’s road to the final has been a dramatic rollercoaster, but it should come to an end with a loss to DWG KIA.
DWG KIA at -1.5 is an interesting play for the LoL Worlds 2021 final, but the moneyline is the safer bet in the DWG KIA vs Edward Gaming odds.
Pick: DWG KIA (-455), U 4.5 (-334)
